What we found out about our dog

We adopted a dog a few months back. We were told she is a cockapoo. We kind of always thought she had some other breed in there because of her size and build (short legs and stocky body). We took her to the groomers yesterday and when we got her back they told us she is a Sealyham Terrier.

I just found this to be very interesting and wondered if this has happened to anyone else. Don't get me wrong, I think she is the best for having adopted at an older aged (7) dog and I know the rescue center we got her from didn't know this. So, I'm not trying to say they tried to deceive us.

This really explains her behavior and demeanor. She fits all the descriptions of a Sealyham Terrier.

Not to be mean but they lied to you most likely. My sister in law got a dog that was terrier mix but they said they didn't know what it was mixed with. If you look at the dog you can tell it was part pit. When she took it to the vet. They even said it was. She was so mad. I wish i had a picture to show you but i don't.

Well, they were right. She is a terrier mix (Pitbull terrier). Hopefully they didn't withhold info just to adopt a dog.

I guess anyone can make a mistake on the identity of a particular dog. I mean, a lady once told me her dog was a Pekingese when in fact it was a Shih-tzu. Honest mistake, they look so much alike ya know! :duh:

They said they didn't know. I really wish i had a picture to show you. It is plain as day that it look like a pit. The teeth, face and how it stands. The dog ended up attacking my son. I don't know if she still has the dog. We don't speak. I got stuck with at lot of bills. I am just saying. People really need to research any dog before getting them. For anyone who is selling a mix dog don't lie about what it is mix with just so you can get rid of it. I was not there when my son got attacked. My mother in law was watching him and she brought the dog over knowing i don't want him around her dog.

Nope my sister in law didn't. She didn't even want to believe the vet. She got the dog at 6 months. So it's not like it was 8 weeks and you don't know what it will look like when it gets older. It's just sad. My son is doing fine now.

Naw.. I don't think they lied. This dog was around 6 years old when the rescue center got her and it had been in a few families before then; so I think misinformation probably got passed on to them. I don't think there would have been any more attraction to adopt her by telling us she is a cockapoo vice Sealyham Terrier. Actually a Sealyham is much more valuable as I've learned. Those kinds of things aren't all that big of factors for us anyway. The folks that run this recuse center do thankless work and they were extremely helpful with the whole process. So I don't think they had any reason to lie about this one.

I hope not. Not all of them lie. But when you dont want a pit and you ended up getting something with pit in it theres a problem. I am glad you are happy with your dog.

I got my dog from SMAWL when he was a pup. He was 7 lbs at 8 weeks and they told me he was going to be a small dog. :lmao: I knew when I saw him he wasn't going to be small. He's 45 lbs. Not big, but way bigger than they said he'd be.

Rescues do their best at guestimating ages, breeds, etc. If they knowingly mislead people, that's wrong. Most of the time I think it's an innocent mistake.

We already had a cockapoo when we adopted this one. She weighed around 20 lbs. So we expected this dog to be about the same size. It was hard to tell by the photos. Then when we saw her she was twice the size. We have a lot steps around our house so we were worried about her getting up and down those and our couch with all that weight and short stubby legs. The vets said she was about 10 lbs over weight. A little dieting and running around our yard and she has lost about 12 lbs.
