What's really holding back black America

Environment also has a lot to do with it, more blacks would succeed with better role models and a role model should not be classified as the dude who wears the most bling, has the best $4,000 rims on a $1,000 dollar car, or can rap and take it to the hoop the best. And although I love sports, too many blacks see it as there only ticket out without focusing on education then wonder how they got left behind in the ghetto when their knee, shoulder, or elbow blow out.

Bill Cosby said it best: Black parents will not think twice about buying their kids $250 dollar sneakers but cringe at the $150 dollar cost of Hooked on Phonics.

My daughter is in Middle School and we drive her to school every morning yet the school bus and transportation are free and almost 1/2 of all the absences are the black kids attending her school. So what is holding these children back knowing the education is free, transportation is free, food at school is free, and my company was one of many who donated thousands of dollars in free school supplies. It's not the kids, it's the parents period or lack there of since most have multiply kids by different fathers and no family values, just more of the same.

Heck most unwed ghetto mom's / dad's don't even give a #### about their kids, they do mostly one of 2 things. 1, If the child doesn't listen, he must have ADHD, hey I can now claim maximum benefits with a mentally challenged kid or 2, If the kid is fine, turn over custody to the grandparents so they can receive max benefits. (Saw this a lot when I volunteered with the Red Cross). And with no real family structure, 6 grandparents, 5 different baby daddy, dumb asses with 6 kids by 5 different woman, etc. etc. it's no wonder role models are almost non existent for today's ghetto youth, in particular the African Americans.

Regardless of everything, it's still no excuse for bad behavior...

Thanks for posting this. My sentiments exactly.

Keep in mind that these are the same people that look towards many of the "programs" for a free handout when it's time to get a job. They'll also be the first in line screaming racism when something negative happens in the community to one of their own.

Lots of great comments here....

Why not???

What's wrong with that? If a guy earns that by singing, by being an entertainer, a jock, a car salesman, a fireman, a lawyer, a bricklayer, a garbage truck driver, what's wrong with that? I'm all for a kid being motivated, at least some, by material things.

My issue is those things being earned through illegal activity, violence and corruption; drugs.

Chern can correct me if I'm wrong, but I took his point to be that many of the people who go after those material things want only those material things. They are greed-driven, selfish, and will go over or through anyone to get what they want - which often means resorting to violence because someone else has something they want, and instead of working for it they take the easiest way to their goal.

You're not agreeing to that... are you? :eyebrow:

I'm not saying anything because if I don't say the exact right thing the exact right way I will be called a racist.

If earned yes, my statement is based more on buying needless sh!t instead of investing in ones own future verse hoping someone will throw some money at your problem in the future to make your problems go away, won't happen!!!

New trucks and new motorcycles don't count as "needless sh!t" do they? :twitch:

...is not a bad thing in and of itself. People don't often resort to violence to get that big promotion at the garbage collection center or to get more of a paper route. Crime, illegal drugs is crime on every level be it how you get supply, distribute it, sell it and so on. Competing in other areas, sports, music, legitimate business persuits can be rough and tumble are normally are without violence.

Drugs is the easy way because the money is so big. I think the other ways provide their own kind of discipline about how to play nice with others; you don't just shoot suppliers/rivals/ etc. :buddies:

Aren't all those rappers killing each other over competition, envy and ego?

...talking about people like the fat guy and the little guy, I don't really know. Maybe the violence has nothing to do with the drug/crime culture. I just think they're of a kind. None of those folks alluded to their pasts as paper boys.

I misunderstood, it is the gangster culture. Funny there has never been a successful gangster ever, they ALWAYS end up dead or in prison, so why emulate it?

R E S P E C T seems to be the culprit. They figure they can't get it unless it is at the end of a gun barrel.

...I think there is successful, multimillionaire gangsters all over the place. Not all of them live to collect Social Security, but, plenty of people are willing to live 20 or 30 rich years and die young.
