What's wrong with eating horses or dogs or cats?

Love frogs legs. A friend brought a bunch up from Florida and they were great. But I won't say they taste like chicken. But they do..

i agree... I also had snake stew one time. We were fooled into thinking it was catfish stew... It's hard to tell what it is though when you have all the spices, rice, & stuff in there for the stew.

No, as I said, too me one animal is no better then any other. I don't eat alot of meat, but I eat it occasionally.

What I don't like is double standards in our society. Punishing people for killing one type of animal while thousands of others are killed legally every day is a double standard.

I'm trying to think of the movie I saw - was it Jurassic Park II? Anyway, all throughout the movie people are getting killed and eaten and nobody makes a peep. But they show this dog barking outside on the chain, then cut to the people inside - next shot is just the chain with no dog attached to it anymore (because the dinosaur has eaten it). In unison, the whole audience exclaims, "Awwwww!" :bawl:

And another time I was watching the news and this anchor was talking about some guy that was beaten to death by a gang or something, delivering it with a completely objective and straight face. Then she moves to a story about someone who broke into a school's petting zoo in Balitmore (I think) and killed some of the animals and she was practically crying - added her own 2 cents about what a heinous thing this was and she certainly hopes they catch the guy.

I just think it's interesting the level of compassion and sympathy we give animals, but not humans.

That was the worst scene from the entire movie....:yikes: listening to that monkey scream...:yikes: I don't consider it to be the same as whacking a dead crab...:yikes:

Were they using mallots - like crab mallots?

I guess it did scream. I'd scream if someone was cracking my skull with a hammer, and I couldn't run away or use my hands to defend myself.

I'm all for eating monkey - or any animal - but there's no sense in making the animal suffer before it dies. Have some respect for your food for crap sake.

AMEN.... the thing that ####es me off is when you see the kid (out of the car seat) riding in the backseat and the dog in the front. Animals(any kind) should not even be placed on the same level as humans.

Well if she showed emotion while delivering the gang related story, she could technically be violating the rights of the gang members who allegedly beat the other guy to death. Most politically incorrect.

Whereas it's okay to show emotion with regard to the animal's rights being violated by the eeeeeevil humans.

Yep. And don't get me wrong - I "awwwww-ed" right along with everyone else and was saddened about the animals, too, but didn't think twice about the guy getting killed.

It's animals and little children. They're innocent and can't protect themselves so it brings out the outrage in us.

It's like anything - if you actually watch it, you'd be horrified. We've seen dogs get kicked or heard about someone grilling their kitten, but the only cows most of us see are peacefully grazing in a pasture or sitting on our plates in the form of a steak or hamburger. We don't see the in-between stage.
As someone who has seen cows and pigs being slaughtered, cut up , packaged, and later on my plate for dinner, I gotta say, it's not that bad. No different than gutting and skinning a deer.

Thats what I thought you were saying. Growing up on a farm it was a harsh wake up call when I was 7 and Daisy got walked out to the barn and got a shot to the head. Even though I like beef, pork and chicken, and I know where it comes from and how it gets to me, I have to admit I get the heebie jeebies thinking the Irish Stew is made form Irish Setter. I also get the heebie jeebies when I am home and see a semi truck full of chickens heading up to the Tyson killing barns. I fades when I pass a KFC though.

I think it depends on your perspective. You and I view them as our pets and love them, these people see them as just another animal that they can eat....

Exactly. If they want to eat dog and cat, let them, but make sure the animals aren't tortured.

I think I laughed when the dog was eaten.

Anyways, I was just curious, if its the fact that they are innocent and can't protect themselves that brings out the outrage, do you feel outraged before you sit down and eat an animal for dinner? I really doubt any of those food animals voted to go to the slaughter house. I guess I don't see the difference between the innocent animal being eaten by the dino and the one being eaten by me and you.

I guess because the movie dog was someone's pet - the cow isn't. I'd wager that if it were a cow that got scarfed in the movie, nobody would have said a word.

>>There is a difference in shooting Bessie in the head and letting her die quickly and slitting Bessie's throat laughing your azz off as she wobbles around mooing until she drops dead from blood loss. <<

Slitting an animals throat was considered the most humane way to kill for a long time and used to be the most common method used by slaughterhouses. Shooting an animal is far too expensive for the mass killing used in slaughterhouses and has the potential of contaminating the meat. I'm not sure what method is used currently, but it doesn't involve a gun.
