What's your favorite foreign city to visit?

I got to visit Venice a few times this winter. I even got to go there for the final weekend before Mardi Gras. A fantastic city with a rich history. A bit pricey given the poor exchange rate for the US dollar, but otherwise just an incredible place to visit. Any given day you will hear dozens of different languages spoken. Good thing for us many stores employ English speakers.

My daughter went to Venice 2 years ago, among other tours such as Paris, Berlin, etc. She is in love with that city. My fave is London. But, my love is for Scotland. I loved Edinburgh, but my most fave place is the outskirts, moors, highlands, etc. I am Scottish on my mother's side, and there is something that just clings to you about that, bagpipes and all! You can feel the history. But, then again, there is no place like home. Great thread!

I just reread your post and you made me laugh. A dozen different languages can be heard in Rockville, MD, as well.

I feel that I've yet to visit my favorite foreign place. I spend a lot of time in the Caribbean and Mexico, but there's so much more out there to explore. Of the islands I've visited, Grand Cayman would probably be my favorite.

I don't much care for cities, but I do like the countryside in Ireland and England.

I've been to Munich twice and loved it. London, Venice and Paris, too. Among others. I can't pick. I would love to got to my Grandmother's home in Norway, as well as Scotland and Ireland.

Vienna has been my favorite, however I have always wondered how I would feel if I returned. The old saying about you can never go back. On one return trip I was with my father who had been stationed in Paris and it was so sad for him to see his favorite haunts gone. He never said, but I believe he wished he hadn't made that return trip, and had just kept his memories of the way things were. My second favorite place was the Neuschwanstein Castle, which isn't a city but a place I would return to. Sometimes travel memories are made special with good company. When I look back I can clearly see how my travel experiences have evolved. So there again, I may choose never to return to my favorite and just keep my memory. I have been lucky to have seen some beautiful places and I still have lots of places I hope to visit yet and I'm open to finding a new favorite. That's the fun of travel.

I'd like to go back to County Kerry, Ireland specifically Dingle, Sneem, Kenmare and Killarney, in that order.

I heard Malta is beautiful. I had a friend stationed in Gaeta that went there to get married. Maybe 1 day
