It is...and so much history too. I worked there for a while back in late 80s and early 90s. Good times.

I read a lot of stories of how the Italian coast guard moves the illegal boat people attempting to enter Italy into camps in Malta. I guess the temporary guests get a bit restless at times and start riots in the camps. Maybe not the best place to visit these days.

I did like most of the pictures I've seen of that place.

Lived outside of Athens for 3 years, loved it. Not sure about the politics anymore. but back in the dark ages you could hike the mountains and see all kinds of out of the way relics. Used to discover places where .maybe a battle occurred during WWII shells scattered everywhere, am sure they are probably all gone by now. have no idea what it is like now. The Med and beaches were beautiful around Marathon back then. The greek isles were great back then also. I am sure they are more tourist traps now than tehy were then.

Back in the 90s we were building high-speed passenger ferries in Norway and delivering them to Greek ferry operators that serviced the larger islands..Mikonos, for example. Its my understanding that the collapse of the Greek economy has seen that largely dry up..AND, many of the smaller islands are for sale to any private owner with the money to buy 'em.
