When I grow up...

My husband and I were having a discussion with our two boys over dinner about what they wanted to be when they grow up. My oldest (8yrs old) said he wanted to be a policeman and work at the same PD I do. My youngest (4yrs old) said he wanted to be a Navy helicopter pilot :patriot:

When I was little, I wanted to be a children's book writer and my husband wanted to be a spy/paid assassin

What do your kids want to be (and for those of you who have grown kids, did they become what they dreamed of being?) and what did you dream of growing up to be and did you accomplish it??

My oldest son starting saying he wanted to be a Police Officer when he was 3. He's all grown up and working for the Charles County Sheriffs Department. Some dreams do come true!

Heck, I STILL want to be a spy/paid assassin.

My oldest son ( 6yo ) switches between being a doctor or a policeman. He tosses in the occasional "own a gas station so I can sell cheap gas" too!

My younges ( 3yo ) is pretty sure he wants to be a fireman. Yesterday on the way home from daycare he said he wanted to go to the work store to get work so he can have money to buy cheese that looks like a tomato ( baby bell mini cheese ) God I love my boys!!!

That's about the age when my oldest started saying he wanted to be cop. I took him to work with me one day and he was hooked. But he almost wet his pants when I took him to our jail. We didn't even see inmates face to face and he was terrified. I thought that would be a good lesson to keep him on the "right" side of the law.

My daughter wants to go to art school - she's just shy of 12. She already picked out the school in Georgia, too.

I don't have kids yet, but when I was little I wanted to be a lot of things. A geologist, a vet, or an artist. I recently switched to vet tech from graphic artist. Going to start taking online courses here soon that approve a local vet to do what they call a practicum (which is like a residency for vet techs). I'm really looking forward to it :)

I had an art school picked out when I graduated from high school. I didn't end up going. Be prepared for another change of mind! I know I couldn't decide, and at 22 I think I'm finally there.

Oh wait, I know that doesn't exactly explain what she wants to do when she grows up. I told her she could move to Hollywood and work on the movies!!

Oh yeah, I wanted to be a marine biologist too. I didn't know what I wanted to be, all the jobs just sounded so cool!

Yeah, I know she could change her mind. She's always been into drawing, painting, making things, etc. She's in honors art now and a piece of work of hers was recently selected for a contest. I hope she places something!! Momma would be so proud! :yahoo:

That's awesome! I was never very competitive. A lot of people tell me I'm a good artist, but for some reason I'm really self-conscious about it. Maybe that's why I strayed from making a career out of it, it's a really competitive world out there for artists.

I still want to be a vet, and dream of having a sheep farm when I'm older. Maybe a few goats.

My sister spent two years in college prepping to be a vet. After working for a vet's office over the summer, she changed her mind. She's now switched to business.
