Mark 1:21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” 26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
I've heard it said, dogs can hear things people can't. You know, that's why they have that dog whistle. No one can hear it... but when we blow it... dogs come.Maybe there's stuff out there we can't hear or see! Maybe the reason we get so clumsy when we get old is... we keep running into spirits we can't see! When we're young, maybe those spirits don't have to get as close to knock us off our path, so we don't notice them at all.
At any rate, Jesus was teaching at the Synagogue in Capernaum on the Sabbath when some jerk started to holler at Jesus.... "Hey... what are you doing here? You trying to destroy us? Who do you think you are? We know who you are.... Holier than thou!"
Jesus told the jerk to shut up! And he did! Everyone was shocked. There was no "the law says" or "it's the Sabbath, we'll have you arrested for arguing on the Sabbath because arguing takes effort". Jesus just told the jerk to shut up and he did.
I don't think Jesus went around talking, talking, talking, talking, and talking. I think Jesus only talked when He had something to say. So....
When Jesus spoke.... Everyone listened!
