Well then I read your post upside down, or maybe backwards because it certainly looked like you were harshly diagnosing her son. I saw nothing in your post about how doctor's misdiagnosed these signs. After reading your posts for the past few years, I've come to see you as a know-it-all BITCH! She came on here asking for advice, not asking for know-it-all bitches to falsely give their diagnoses ("opinions").

from this quote "He was Dx'd at Kennedy Krieger btw- supposedly a GREAT hospital." i understood that to mean her son was misdiagnosed by Kennedy Kreiger.

I don't care if I come off as a know it all bitch to you or not.

How about to others because you do it quite often.

well if we're going by what others perceive, then you are the biggest, best, dick sucker in the tri state area and you know it all. You've been around the block several times and have more experience then I do on that for sure

I have personal experience with autism, OCD, defiance disorder and bi-polar disease in a young child. Yep. I'm in expert. :sarcasm: Just so happens that alot of the examples she provided are the same examples that helped to dx this particular child.

yes, so glad my granddaughter was blessed with these issues. It's so nice to have hours of experience sitting in the office with professionals trying to help. Your compassion is overwhelming.

Sorry that you've had to deal with all of that, but it does not make you an expert. Me, on the otherhand, dealing with so many dicks in my life...I'm an expert. You called me the best so I must be just that. :yum:

You were the one that accused me of being a know it all. I never claimed to be the expert.

To the OP
You have the points of contact to begin your quest in finding help for your situation. I sincerly hope you find the answers and everything works out for you and your child. It's never easy dealing with learning disabilities or medical issues with children. I wish you all well :huggy:

I've been thinking a lot about that lately, not so much about therapists as much as there is not a lot for young people in this area. I've wondered if there are other mothers/parents like me out there that want more for their kids but don't know how to go about getting it. I'm being laid off at the end of June and as far as I'm concerned this is my son's time and I want to do everything in my power to help him move forward. He's mildly retarded and on the spectrum. He also has epilepsy which is only moderately controlled. He has little to no social skills and doesn't seem to know how to relate to people his own age. I'm not sure how to help him but I know I can't be the only person is this area with this problem. I've asked around and talked to people that are "in the know" but so far all everyone just shakes their head and says yup it's a problem in this area.

Have you checked out http://tcle.org/services/day-habilitation/?

don't get ahead of yourself. Being the best in the tri-state area is like saying you're the best football team in the NFC East. Maybe there's just not much competition?

Personally, I'd be pretty cheesed about being called the "biggest".

Sorry I can't help with the OP; I only know the Charles County system. Took a long time to find the right resources, but I do agree that a psychologist would be a good first step, and once there is a diagnosis, go about finding a resource coordinator for your son; he or she will be able to advocate and find what/who you need to see. Your son's pediatrician/primary care doctor may be able to point you in a good direction - that is how we actually found early intervention for my daughter at age 18 months when we moved here from Hawaii. DDA has just made some big changes and resource coordinators are now paid by the case (although that's a simplified version of what's happening). I think it's unfortunate that this is only now being identified at age 13. My best to you on your search for answers and resolutions.
