Live or Steamed no matter. I know about Chesapeake Bounty in St. Leonard -- Prices are much higher than used to be. Captain Smith's in Solomons by Woodburns is OK.... Any other favorite places?

What about restaurants? If I want to dine in and eat? -- without paying a fortune.......

Thanks!!!!

I live in Calvert and I'm sorry but Smitty's is awful!!!!! He re-heats his if not sold the day before! I've been going over to Leonardtown to Crabknockers, they are great.

Right now a bushel of number ones is $155.00. Give them a try I think you'll like them.

Best thing to do is try a new place everytime you want crabs and eventually you will find a place that you like.

Crabs

That's awful they reheat unsold crabs. What bothers me more is that carry out and restaurants cook dead crabs... It's obvious because when you open the crab to eat it, it smells like ammonia. If the crabs were fresh when cooked, they should NOT smell bad at all, especially like ammonia. I've had this happen even at restaurants charging very high prices for crabs.

That's why I like to buy live and cook my own.

If you buy crabs and open it up and it smells bad, take it back and demand a refund. If people did this, then maybe the bad businesses would go out of business.

In the past, carry out crab places used to throw in a couple extra. Now, they count them like they are gold or something.

Calypso Bay Crab House (Used to be Harbor Sounds) in Solomons has them. Wife and I ate there last Friday night and it was fantastic. Didn't get the blue crabs but everything else was excellent. Highly recommend them.

Hmm, got a mixed bushel of #1 and jumbo males from Smitty yesterday and they were delicious. Very full. Everyone raved about how great they were! :yahoo:

You're a LOON :)
Wow the prices are super high! We got half a bushel of #2's this weekend in VA for $30. They were so yummy. I wanted bigger but that's all they had left :(

Usually I go to Capt Smiths... prices have always been decent and crabs have always been good and we have been going there for almost 10 years.

Dutch and I ate there last night. I found a coupon in Val-Pak for a buy one get one free entree (yes, I'm thrifty) The meal was excellent and I couldn't believe that oysters on the half were .25 each (Friday only between 4-8...all appetizers are also half price...Friday) We ate two dozen  Wednesdays are half price crab night ($2 crab) This is perfect for us because we just want one or two each.

The service was excellent and I found my perfect spot. I can smoke both upstairs and down... (covered porches) so I can enjoy my dining experience once again in the way I like.
