Which car insurance should I go with?

I went with a broker (Fisrt Insurance Group of Maryland) - they whored me out and Penn National Insurance was the cheapest... they are really good... had an accidental loss of an SUV and they did not raise my rates. I never heard of them until I went with them... Geico and Progressive could not touch their rates on Auto.

I had my motorcycle (when I had it) and my now my camper through Progressive...

:yay: What we can do is give our opinion of what you get for your $$$. I've always had great service from Geico and State Farm. Not so good with Allstate.

I have a friend who had Erie until he had to make a claim. After that fiasco was over, he switched to Geico.

I never had a problem with them. I've made claims over the years and they were fast and helpful each time. Both in auto and homeowners.
One little thing. The adjuster did try to get the body shop guy to repair a body panel rather than replace it, but he relented. The metal was ripped for about 8 inches!

If you just graduated, check to see if there are any discounts through your alumni association. I am a UMBC grad and they give discounts through Liberty Mutual. We switched to them after finding out that our car insurance would go down a few bucks a month, but our homeowner's would drop by $300+/year. I also know that Navy Fed gives Geico discounts, if you belong to them, but I found them to be more expensive. Definitely check around. You are going to have to call around. Make sure, though, that just to get a ballpark quote, they are not pulling your credit (no SSN until you are ready to sign with them).

I just found that out. Progressive raised my bike rate because..... I didn't have a history of a car loan. Can ya beat that! I manage my money so I don't have to take out a loan, and I get penalized for it.....

I am a recent graduate now on my own and am trying to do research on car insurance. I have a 2002 Ford Mustang Convertable and I am 24 years old. With excellent credit, an average driving record ( 3 speeding tickets in the last 8 years, no accidents), who should I go with? Can you please tell me why you like or dislike your current insurance company?
Thanks!

24, single, 3 speeding tickets, and a Mustang Convertible??

Farmers.

I mean, how much are you willing to spend on insurance!?

Theres a place in Mechanicsville, I believe Allied Ins. Its just past Copsey seafood on the right if your coming south. Theres a girl there named Stacey and she will compare with lots of comapanies and give you the best prices. She got our car ins. and house ins. way down and the co. she got us with covered all the house after the tornado. She is very nice.

I have Statefarm (Wayne Shoemaker in PF) for both cars (mustang included) and the house.... They've always treated me well, good rates, really good customer service.

Farmers? haha No.... single No, I grew up in Atlanta, GA and moved to this area a few months ago. I am on a pretty tight budget but I want to make sure I am well covered and won't be disappointed with who I choose. I really appreciate the people who have posted their experiences with their auto insurance companies. I currently have State Farm but find them a bit expensive around here but don't want to pick a company that is too cheap because there is going to be a catch. I am going to do some research with USAA and take your opinion and check into my alumni association.

Thanks for your help everyone. If you just joined this post please continue to state your opinion.

You should get a few quotes. It is definitely worthwhile to get a quote from State Farm. They have lowered their rates and may be cheaper than some of the others.

My daughter is 20 and has a new honda accord. I had her under my policy with State Farm when she had a cavalier but when she got the new car and her own policy, State Farm was going to charge her 399.00 a month, yes that is 399.00 a month. I told her to shop around and she went with progressive for half the amount with the same amount of coverage. And by the way she has nothing on her driving record either..........

If nothing else You are an original! Our company is an Insurance Broker/Agent Company and never have we been compared to a pimp before! Had I known that I would have been dressing a little differently! Just kidding!

Sounds like you made the right decision. It always pays to shop around. It is still worth it to get the quote. May not be the same experience as you had with your daughter.

I have Eire and have had it for over 20yrs., car and homeowners, when I switched from Allstate and checked around they gave me the best prices.
I don't know about any claim problems because in over 36 years I have never had to put in for any claim other then windshields. :patriot:

Nope... State Farm:howdy:
I've been with State Farm since 1985. I think teh rates have been very reasonable over the years. Some years, the rates are stable and have even decreased a few times. After I was with them for about three year and had a clean record, I applied for and was accepted into State Farm Mutual. The nice thing about that is that I receive dividend checks each year based on company performnce and claims made that year. In other words, if the amount of claims made that year is lower than expected, State Farm sends dividend checks to its Mutual members. The one really nice thing about State Farm is that you deal with a local agent who knows you and your family on a first name basis. You don't deal with an 800 number who knows you as a policy number.

I use Geico but you should definitely check around to see who can give you a better rate. I drive an 05' Tiburon and pay about $110/month but don't have any tickets. That's a far cry from where I started when I first started driving though. I'm 26. I drove a Neon at the time and was paying almost $300/month! I hate Progressive!! Anyways, good luck to you!! Hope ya find something "affordable" (I hate the word cheap)

I didn't mean that in a bad way - just a pure figure of speach!

I think FIG is PHENOMINAL! :yay: In the past 4 years I have sent a lot of business there... I like it for the reason your agent will check your policy against others to see if you can ACTUALLY save me money - you cannot beat this!

Wife and I use Nationwide. For both vehicles a 02 blazer and a 07 Fusion only 157.00 a month full coverage, plus homeowners with them, can't remember what homeowners price was but it was not very expensive compared to others in the area. Never had a problem either.

Definately call every insurance company in the book and ask for quotes. If you find they are too high, call a broker. My boyfriend saved big with a broker ($119 a month with bad record) until I was able to add him to my State Farm Policy, now $68 a month or so. I've always had State Farm and the only claims I have filed have been for uninsured motorists. The only problem I had with State Farm is that they did not provide me with enough rental insurance when my car was being repaired. Guess that's kinda my fault though.

Other than that, they have been great and very easy to work with. I use Joan Hackett.
