You get the first month free!

When you make your live account, just tell them you don't want the gold service and they give you 30 days to try it out anyway. Aint that sweet!!

I'm not sure but if you buy the "ELITE" system, you get 3 months free??? It may not even be offered anymore but it should tell you on the box. Good call on the FREE MONTH! :yay:

Played a team death match last night with a bunch of kids who's clan tag was {Balz}. After we beat them 750 to 480 we chanted "We kicked Balz! We kicked Balz!

you can not play PS2 games on PS3 (they removed that), but you can play PS1 games.

honestly, I'd get a Wii and/or an Xbox 360

Xbox has way more games then the PS3 and most games that come to PS3 also go to Xbox 360.

Also, they are making a BR add on for the 360 that will be out eventually.

I can play my PS2 games on the PS3.

What about the problems they have with the 360's? Heard they burn up after a year or so and you end up buying another.

My son has the 80 PS3 and he is able to play his PS2 games on it. Graphics are great.
That's what my son wants for Christmas. A PS3, but if they can't play PS2 games on them, I told him to forget it and get an xbox360. But since they can play the PS2 games on them, he gets a PS3.

I can play my PS2 games on the PS3.

did you buy an early one? .... I know they removed the capability after a while.

edit: apologies!

The 80 gig can still play PS2 games (the 20, 40, and 60 gig ones can not) (unless you got them early).

"In addition to all of the features of the 20 GB model, the 60 GB model has internal IEEE 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, multiple flash card readers (SD/MultiMedia Card, CompactFlash Type I/Type II, Microdrive,[54] Memory Stick/PRO/Duo), and a chrome coloured trim.[44] In terms of hardware, the 80 GB model released in South Korea is identical to the 60 GB model released in the PAL regions, except for the difference in hard drive size.[55] Like the South Korean and European models, the North American 80 GB model also excludes the PlayStation 2 "Emotion Engine" CPU chip.[56] However, it still keeps the "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU.[57] Due to emulation of the "Emotion Engine", the level of compatibility was reduced[56] (see PlayStation 3 games - Removal of hardware support for more details). The 40 GB model has two USB ports instead of the four USB ports on other models, and does not include a multi memory card port, SACD support, or any backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 titles.[56][17] This was due to the removal of "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU, which stripped the unit of all PlayStation 2 based hardware.[45]"

reads ugly, but the info seems to be there.

PS2 to PS3 compatability:

PlayStation.com

type in the game name to see if it will run on your PS3

(why sony decided to make this so hard on buyers is beyond me)

(nintendo and microsoft made it easy in that ALL games from the previous system are playable)

He bought it a few months ago. Saved all his Christmas money, birthday money and yard work money for a year. Bought the damn thing and now cant afford to buy the games for it.:killingme

I like NBA 2K8 over NBA Live. EA seems to be getting better at the basketball game again but it just seems NBA 2K8 flows smoother.

I had MLB 2K7 for Xbox 360 and I liked that. This year with the PS3 I got the MLB 08 The Show..that game is awesome...It has been seeing way more time than GTA..

My computer does not have a 50" screen

:yeahthat: I work on and with computers all day....I get on my laptop at home maybe 10 minutes a week. I would much rather be in my mancave in front of my 57" DLP, on my couch with my surround sound then sitting at a damn computer desk...I do that for 9 hours a day...

I'm looking to get a new system. Which one do you all think is better? A PS3 or a XBox360. I have a PS2 now and I think that you can play those games on the PS3. But which one has the better graphics? And which one is a better buy in your opinon? TIA

Ok seriously. I have a PS3 and I have never played a 360. Even though the PS3 has a Blu-Ray player, the Xbox 360 will eventually get one as an add-on as well. No big deal.

The real issue is the games. It's really about the exclusive titles for each system. No I don't think any system is better than the other. It's obvious that each system has their pro's and cons, but I believe it comes down what games you like. If you could care less about the exclusive games such as Halo or Metal Gear, get either system. You can't go wrong.

For the most part, the Wii is about party games. Its fun when you have a group of people over, but it sucks for most games. I tried to play a few regular games on my brothers and they just sucked bad. No real fine control of anything and too tiring for games that take hours.

As for the ps3 and xbox 360. I have both and there is little difference in the video that I can see. I prefer the 360 simply because I like the controler much more. I like the layout of the thumb sticks better and being able to use regular batteries works much better for me.

The fact that the ps3 controllers batteries are built in really sucks. And they only give you a short cord for recharging which makes it very hard to keep playing once your batteries go dead. I got an adapter a few months ago to allow me to recharge the controlers while the game unit is off, but I use it so rarely that I never even took it out of the package. Every game of significance on the ps3 has been on the 360 as well, so I just get the 360 version. So, for the most part the ps3 has been a waste of money for me. I have used it to watch a few blue ray movies, but their price needs to come down to regular dvd level before I will buy many more.
