Which local junkyards still allow picking? Samurai

Haven't visited any for a while. But getting ready to start an 88 Samurai rebuild. Nothing spectacular, just everyday street driver. Figured a local tour of the recycling places might be in order. Last places I knew that did were the one on Flat Iron, and the Southern Maryland Auto Parts on 235 just north of Sandgates road.

the better question might be

what local yards have 30 yr old vehicles

Thought Brandywine did as well. I know they used to. Don't have them change your windshield. They suck at it. Took them 4 trys to get mine right.

I keep hearing about Rays, have never made it out that way:) Odds of finding a Samurai, pretty slim, but there are a lot of Tracker parts that can be bolted over, Suzuki never let a design dollar go to waste:) Also other little bits like the rubber hood latches from Jeeps can be used. Stock method of unlatching the hood is actually a small cable from inside the glovebox. Could Spend $30 on a new cable, or say $10 buying a couple of Wrangler latches from a yard:)

would NEVER have a junkyard change anything on my car:) I know how they take stuff apart:) Another reason I like to pull my own parts:)

Crazy Ray's is defintely worth the trip. The Jessup and Hawkins Point are the best yards. Mt. Airy is not worth the hike and Erdman wasn't that great. I haven't been to the new yard yet Edgewood.

I think I saw a sign about pulling your own parts at Seymour's in Charlotte Hall the other day when I drove by.

Had forgotten about Seymours.

Hollywood auto parts used to let you, it's been a couple of years since the last time I was there so I can't swear to them still allowing it. They're on Airport view rd. behind suburban propane.

Hell, they have been closed for maybe 2 years now, I think.

The Ultimate Junk Yard List?

Nice thing about a vehicle with a cult following. Cult members are fanatical.
:buddies:

Ford pick window channels, GM alternators, Nissan 300ZX can provide not only larger better brake calipers, but longer brake lines for for lifted trucks:) Neon seats bolt right in, Lincoln MKVIII has slim high flow radiator

I stopped at Seymores(sp) a few years ago to get a simple windshield sprayer that mounts on the hood. They told me I wasn't allowed to get them myself and for them to do it, it would be $58. $3 for the part $55 dollars in labor.

I like Brandywine myself. Picked up a YJ sport roll bar for my CJ for $75, and a bunch of other parts for various cars over the years.

Another reason for visiting the junkyard is that when you take a teen, it sort of brings home the reality of what happens when 3,000lbs of metal meets other objects at speed. Seeing occasional crunched ones parked in front of the school is one thing, but crawling through the cars in the junkyard and seeing small bits left behind, trinkets, CDs, small personal items, for me, those speak eloquently of a life jarringly interrupted by a crash. And remind me to take the extra steps required to avoid having a car of mine end up there.

Slow going, some of it is funding coming from the sale of the Screaming Yellow Zonker which hasnt happened yet, (anyone need a cheapo daily driver in about three weeks? 130hp, sporty suspension, around 30mpg) some of it travel, some back issues. Did get the spare motor up on the engine stand, freeing the hoist up for swapping the two carbed engines around. Plan to get most of the prep done for yanking the red ones motor done this weekend. Coolant drained, bolts loosened, ancillary stuff disconnected.
