Do you prefer to cook a whole chicken in the crock pot or in the oven? How long do you cook it?

I prefer to cook them in the grocery store.

Costs about the same, tastes great and I don't have to clean anything.

personally I've always liked oven baked better, crock pot is definitely juicier, but it has the wrong texture. As far as time goes that's a function of the size of the bird and wether it's stuffed or not. My personal way is to juice 1 large lemon and mix it with 1/2 cup oil and 1 pack of Italian dressing, stuff the lemon carcasses in the bird and rub the dressing into the skin, bake the bird at 350° for 90 minutes or until the breast meat reads 165°.

Perfect every time!

On the rare occasion I feel the need to roast my own chicken, I use the oven.

I do pretty much the same thing. Lemon, butter and various herbs and cook until it reachs 165 degrees.

I use the crockpot on chicken pieces, such as skinless breast.

Shoppers is easier to get in and out. They do them on rotisseries right there in the store.

I've always heard that rotisserie birds were the expired whole chickens.
Thr unsold rotisserie birds become chicken salad. I don't want to know where the unsold chicken salad goes.

It amazes me how many people walk around afraid of the silliest things.

Why is that bad?

If Shopper's rotisserie chickens were bad for you, I'd have been dead a long time ago because I probably average 1 per week.

We grill year around here, but if I had to choose the Oven, or Crock Pot..I would prefer the Oven. The Crock is good for Soups, or Stews. I like the skin crispy, and the Crock doesn't do that.

And I just saw yesterday on 'The Chew' that the crispy skin is NOT as bad for you as everyone thinks. It actually has more of the good fats than bad, more mono-unsaturated.

And then went on to talk about a sammich that replaces bacon with crispy chicken skin.... omg.

Thanks, I decided to bake it instead of using the crock pot. It is a 6 lb chicken. I am going to bake it at 350 for 2 hrs. Hope it is good! I am not much of a cook,so we will see...:howdy:

You really need a thermometer, but after 1.5 hours stab it in the thigh joint. If the juice does not run clear, it ain't done.
