Why does it take DAYS to count votes?

OK... I've worked the polls in Maryland and in Arizona. The same machines we used in Maryland back in the early 2000's are being used in Arizona.
I have a neighbor who was Chief Judge at our local polling place. She's sick as a dog today... as a matter of fact, I don't know who's going to walk her dogs today... she's so sick. She says she has pneumonia.... she was sick Tuesday, but she worked anyway. I wonder how many people made others sick in line. I didn't go to the polls.... I am a mail in voter... so I don't get the flu!
We had printed ballots when I worked in the Arizona Polls. There were no printers other than the little receipts we are all familiar with in Maryland. BUT.... in Arizona, everything had to be "convenient" so you can vote at any polling place in any precinct. That's why they had to print ballots and that's what caused the issue.... IMHO.
She said the printers didn't work right all day long. The ink was too light for the reader to pick up the margins. Now if the margins aren't square, the votes aren't in line with the reader. If the reader doesn't see a mark in a spot required, it will spit out the ballot. Forget about the hanging chad.... this is a hanging ballot. It would be fed into slot 3 so it can be hand counted later if necessary. Signatures are already checked so that puts these a little ahead of the mail in ballots.
Now... in Arizona, if you want to vote by mail, you have to request a ballot. Then if you want to send it back by mail, it has to be in the office by close of polls on Tuesday. So, a lot of people decided to take their ballots right to the polling place and hand them in. That way they know their ballot was on time. HOWEVER, signature check has to be done on all these ballots.
Now, at my polling station, when I worked the polls in Arizona, myself, the poll workers would check each envelope for a signature, phone number, and date. They would "encourage" the voter to check it and make it correct. Those signatures will have to be verified. That takes longer.... and we had lines around the block on Tuesday... and a lot of them were just turning in their ballots.
My friend said the people were extremely mean Tuesday. They were on a verge of revolt because the printers weren't working when someone required a printed ballot.
AND Lake is already declaring the vote illegal.... so, we have to dot every i and cross every t to make sure every vote is counted and none of those who voted are dead. We have to check every signature. Identification is required.
ALSO, Arizona has a law that if the margin between Lake and Hobs [for example] is .5% or less, then a recount will be required automatically. We're right at .5% now.... so doing a careful count will save us time and money... hopefully.
I tell you the truth.... that's what's going on in Arizona. It's all above board and honest. If Lake wins... it's the will of the people. If Hobbs wins... it's the will of the people. I tell you the truth.

Arizona is not mostly Democrats. The majority of people here are Republicans. Maricopa County and Apache Junction are really MAGA represented.
And THAT is the biggest reason why I doubt the Democrats are legitimately winning in Maricopa County - it has voted Republican in every election since the founding of the state, except for the FDR/Truman years - and I think it voted for Wilson.
It voted Republican for Goldwater when Johnson STOMPED him (it helped that he was FROM Arizona). It voted for Nixon, twice and for Ford. It voted Republican every time - until Biden.
I'm not quick to jump to "Cheater!!" but something's wrong.

We have a lot of people who have moved here in the last two years after being burned out of their homes in California. Trump said they wouldn't have been burned out if they spent more time raking the forest.... so they tend to be more moderate than most. Ah ha ha!
ALSO.... we have a lot of people who are retiring here from other northern states. A few years ago, my neighborhood was 90% Republican... and now.... it's about 45%. Don't get me wrong... the voice is still loud for their party... and they openly carry their guns.... so we don't question them on why they are Republicans. But they are quick to tell us to leave their guns alone.... in an open carry state.... Ah ha ha!
There is a strong MAGA presence here but not as strong as it was a couple years ago. We had a neighbor who only recently took down her TRUMP signs. She did it the week the Supreme Court reported on ROE.
AND.... a lot of people here don't like what happened with ROE V WADE.
Now, when they get to counting the ballots that were handed in on Tuesday, rather than receiving them in the mail..... I do expect to see the Republicans get a little boost.... but not as much as some are expecting. The people I saw in the crowd were not the old folks.... the majority of the women I have talked to here say that they are NOT giving up any rights.... They know their guns are protected, after all we are open carry... but they are not happy about ROE.
Oh did you know there was a question on the ballot that would allow the Arizona Congress to negate any law they deem unconstitutional? Even school funding, voting rights for women, and abortion rights. Thankfully that foolishness is probably going to fail.... a lot of people are angry about it.
Nope... I'm watching it close.... there are cameras on every movement in the election office counting room. Everything is scrutinized. It's honestly going as well as it would anywhere else in the nation.
Lake will yell something at the end... if she wins she will say she made them do it right. If she loses she will say it is rigged. Masters and Finchin are going to do the same.

Wow. This might be one of the most level headed well thought out things i've read on here in a long time.

Too bad most will ignore it because it is easier to claim election fraud when their side loses because they cant fathom other people think differently than they do and demographics change.
I kind of think stopping Joe from any more of his foolishness is a pretty good policy platform. It’s not like they’ll be able to pass anything.
If the country wants to know election results that evening or next morning, States really need to get mail-in voting under control because it's not going away.

There's the rub, politicians won't place the mail-in cut off before election night. Abolish all mail-ins, half of the provisional ballots were the county saying an absentee had been sent to the voter.

When I was in the navy, absentee voting was a huge deal. Each command had someone to make sure 100% got ballots. What I remember them saying and this may be incorrect but, our absentee ballots only got counted if the total number of absentee ballots was greater than the difference between the candidates. So in a landslide election, those votes never got counted. Because they didn't affect the outcome.
They spent a lot more time getting those CFC numbers up.
