I'm non-religious, I hear people say Merry Christmas to me, I say Merry Christmas back. Why would other atheists/non-religious people be offensive to it. I don't get it.

I'm with V on this, maybe because I self identify as a Christian.I'm non-religious, I hear people say Merry Christmas to me, I say Merry Christmas back. Why would other atheists/non-religious people be offensive to it. I don't get it.
Yes! Just because I chose to mail out cards that say "Happy Holidays" or "Ho Ho Ho" doesn't mean you must take it as discrediting your beliefs or that you are loose and whorish!Conversely, when someone wishes me "happy holidays" I don't get all bent out of shape about that, either, and insist it's CHRISTMAS!!!!:

You can have fun with this... this year you should wrap up your FIL's present with paper stating 'Nice" and your MIL with paper stating "Naughty" I got mine from Hallmark and did the same for my brother (naughty) and SIL (nice)!I wrapped my MIL's Christmas present in wrapping paper that said Ho Ho Ho and she got mad at me.![]()
Simple answer: The internet.
I've never, ever, had anyone say anything about me wishing them a merry Christmas. But I guarantee you can find a blog post or opinion piece somewhere no one really agrees with about how it's some uber-offensive saying.
Well, I can go back to the early 70s where I got read the riot act by a jewish woman. This lady was next door neighbor to a girl's house where a group of us always hung out. I had known the lady for a while, she was always very friendly and nice with us teens. Well, we were hanging out a couple days before Xmas and she was there, I wished her a Merry Xmas and she went crazy about Christmas not being her holiday and how dare I wish her a merry xmas..Needless to say, I steered clear of her after that.
