We are invovled with a dog rescue group, participate in their fund-raisers and stuff like that. We have three dogs. She came to me with the idea of fostering another one until he is adopted, said she'd only do it if I was perfectly OK with it. At first I said sure, then she asked if I was really really sure, and the more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea. I work nights and am usually the one who has to make the feedings (this dog apparently has issues with being aggressive/snappy around food), the trips to the vet, and stuff like that. I'm not interested in having to be the trainer/discipliner/whatever.
Plus I like what we have here and don't want to upset the applecart by introducing another dog into what I think is a pretty nice little family we have here, especially with one that may have behavior problems and might get aggressive with our existing puppy fleet. So I said that.
Of course when discussion about dog #3 was going on a couple years back I said the same thing, she got the dog anyway and he's turned out to be a good little guy. But will that be true with dog #4, then #5, then #6? She knows people who have like 12 of these dogs and that's just ridiculous. She also mocks her sister's family which has six dogs, including some BIG ones, but we're not that far away if this slippery slope continues.
Anyway she says it's temporary, just till the guy gets adopted, but I've read way too many stories about people taking in fosters and then they can't let them go. I'm assuming the same would happen here.
So I said no and now it's nice and quiet here. She'll probably get over it, or she'll just go and get the dog whether I want it or not, and then I'll have an excuse to give her the silent treatment.
