Why would a mother push away....

I think it's strange that the owner would go on a cruise knowing that her dog has a litter of puppies, and especially when there is an issue.

Most cruises are expensive and planned months ahead of time. If I had someone to care for the dog I sure as hell would not miss my cruise. Most tickets are non-refundable.

Well here's the story...
She booked the cruise 7 months ago.

This pregnancy was not planned. She always separates her males & females when they come in heat.

Didn't get them separated in time. :ohwell:

Gotcha. If it were me, I'd stay home. I once had to miss a trip to San Antonio because my sheep were due to lamb. Different strokes for different folks.

back to the puppy issue....are they hydrated? if you pinch their skin does it bounce back ??? also no matter what litter ...no pups need to die. check their feet and underside...do you see any little scabs??? between their toes?? if the unbillical was not treated with betadine or something like that ,bacteria can get in there and cause septacemia(sp??) a blood infection..pups would need antibiotics and some sugar water till they recover(10 days of antibiotics) usually Clavimox....would not hurt to have a vet check them out...make sure the little one that is getting kicked out stays warm..good luck

Some people like pure bred dogs and there's NOTHING wrong with that.

MANY pure bred dogs end up in the shelter. Picked up at least 5 pure bred dogs with their papers at the shelter over the course of rescuing. Some paid over 2000.00 and still dropped them in the shelter. Seems it doesn't matter where the pup starts his life as much as where it ends its life.

Good luck with the pup and thanks for caring enough to try to help!

I am not a dog owner nor do I ever really intend to be but my parents are. They have pure breds and rescues. They take really well of their dogs. They love Malamutes and pay big bucks for them. So be it. They take good care of them. Good luck finding one of those in a rescue with papers and suitable for breeding.

Big bucks is not always an indication of a well-bred animal.

Correct! Even if the dog was well bred, they may discover a flaw in the dogs personality which any reputable breeder would stop the line right there. Unless they are just doing it for the money. My poor guy was never allowed to do the deed! But they do not have to be able to breed to become a valued family member.

HOW ARE THE PUPPIES DOING??????
I agree with the cost thing...I bought a chihuahua pup...no papers ...bad patella ...$1,200 later she is good as new !!!( hate to think what her life could have been like if I did not buy her....would her leg have ever gotten fixed?) A friend bought a AKC Bulldog..$1200 ...she discovered the pup is deaf ....oops...hgher cost does not make higher quality

I know this. But I still do not think that there is nothing wrong with buying a pure bred animal, especially if it is from a good breeder. I think that getting a rescue is wonderful but some people are just in love with certain breeds.

I hope the pups do well, I HATE to see animals suffer.

As far as $$ for breeds. I bought an AKC Beagle puppy form a local breeder for $600. He has seizures, allergic to everything, chews his feet, drags his butt, costs tons of money in vet visits. I wouldn't trade him for the world though, he's my kid. He's almost 7yrs old now.

I also have a registered German Shepherd which I got while in Germany from a breeder for $600. She has absolutely no medical issues. My mail lady found out I had her and told her friends- I had people I didn't know knocking on my door wanting to breed with my shepherd. Saying you know how much money you could make with her... I said yes and no thank you, I had her spayed as soon as she was able to be spayed. They just looked at me in amazement walked away... She's almost 6yrs old now.

Do you think a good breeder would leave a litter at home to go on vacation?

Yep. That's alot of money to lose. Did NP post that this person was a breeder?

She said this was the dog's third litter. Sounds like a breeder to me. She could have aborted the litter since it was accidental and she knew she was going on a cruise.

Anyways, I'm done with this thread. :howdy:
