Why????????????

Why does my 80lb Blk Lab go out at 10pm and do her business then wakes me up at 3 or 4am to go out again, only to find out later as I walk to my bathroom the carpet is wet in the hallway:smack:. Why must she piss so much? It is not a joy to walk in that first thing in the morning.:boxing:

Should I pull her bowl at night? If I do that then she walks to both toliets and sits by the bed and pants like she is dying:diva:.
I'm going to start keeping her in the kitchen at night. Any suggestions, no medical problems that we are aware of and she sees the vet as needed and is up on all her shots and exams.

Have you ever crate trained the dog?

she could be diabetic if she drinks that much and pees that much. I would call the vet and see if you can get her tested. I had that problem with one of my cats and that is what ended up being.

No she is part of our pack, me, hubby and another dog. She is 5 and spoiled, they have free range and sleep with us:whistle:. I know that is a bad idea, but it's a little to late to change that. Plus the 9 year old, want budge if you try to get her out of bed before 7am. She has no problem can hold it for 12 hours or more, if it's raining.:lmao:

I am going to try pulling the water bowl again for a few nights and see if that and keeping her in the kitchen and masterbedroom area will help. She goes at the other end of the house by the 2 other bedrooms and bath in hall.

No problems with that at least not at the last vet visist, what are some other signs of diabetic dogs? She will go all day and not drink until late afternoon. I am home now and have seen this pattern. Drink in the morning out to do business then leave for work, come home and the same amount of water is still in bowl. Then they will both drink off and on in the evening. They both go out at 10ish and only the lab has this problem, the other dog will go out in the morning and it starts all over again.

No, I noticed it about a year ago, but she hasn't done it in months, she will do it for awhile and then stop. Nothing seems to trigger it that I know of. No change in routine or sleeping.

possibly the heat being on? It dries us out, why not her?

Buster (one of our Boxers) had this problem. He is crate trained. We didn't get him until he was a year old and he was constantly in the crate or tied by his previous owners. He never learned to drink water throughout the day. Off and on he would pee trying to make it outside or would pee on the rug by the door. I watched his habits and noticed he would drink a huge amount of water in the evening. He is crated during the day because he doesn't have good manners...he never learned them.

Anyway..I went to Petco and got a huge water bottle for his crate and he can drink throughout the day and doesn't drink huge amounts of water later in the day. This seems to have solved the problem.

I'd say that if you have water available for her during the day..take it up after dinner. She will learn to drink during the day.

Becareful how you handle it when she does it.

Don't make a big deal out of it or even look at her or say her name.
Remove her from the area before you clean it up.

She is old enough to know better. She may be getting some kinda attention from it

Is your dog spayed ? Some female dogs can have a problem with low estrogen levels several years after being spayed. You can check by having blood work done at your vet's office. I would suggest having blood work done anyway. She's 5, considered middle age for a large breed dog. Seeing what her renal ( kidney ) values are is a good idea too; she could be having a problem with her kidneys. I'm a registered veterinary technician and have seen dogs her age, and younger, have issues with their kidneys. Sometimes it's as simple as a diet change to get things back on track. However, before you spend the money at your vet's I would try to do what has been suggested with picking up her water bowl. If things aren't any better in a week or so, go in for blood work. Good luck.

Maybe the dog has sleep apnea. I used to have this problem with Larry before he got the CPAP.

I have cut back on her food, Dr. said he wasn't to concerned about that, but she could lose a few pounds. We all could in this family even the litttle one.:buddies: Only a true friend can say that about her:smoochy: she loves you. Serious, I have cut back, and she gets carrots for treat or 1 dog treat a day. I feed her 2 cups with about 2 TBLS of wet once a day. It's the injury to her legs that put the weight on, with 3 operations in a year, crated and drugged most of the time (why couldn't that be me):otter:. So exercise was limited, now after seeing what it all has done we are working on it and walking more in the new neighborhood. Between the licking none stop and peeing in the middle of the night and the sheding, and sheding, I am going to change her food and see if there is any change.

Thanks for all of your suggestions everyone. Will try this for 2 weeks and if no change or problem gets worse it's off to the vet we go.
