Why?

I used to hang onto clothes purely for the memories attached to them. Now I don't keep it unless I love it and I'm A LOT more scrupulous about what I buy so I'm not purging as much as I used to. I do spend a bit more on higher quality clothing (I never pay full price though!), but I have a very J Crew/classic aesthetic and that stuff doesn't go out of style. I'm not one for trends unless you're counting my green skinny jeans.

Now, bathing suits? Ugh. I have A LOT and last year finally got rid of a bunch that haven't fit in years. I knew there was no way I was going to be able to wear them again but I kept them because they were cute. Except...duh, nobody sees them when they're just hanging out in my closet. :lmao:

Routinely Derailed
I was talking to a friend and making fun of my mother for having three closets full of clothes and shoes, most of which she hasn't worn or even seen in years.

Then I realized that I have clothes and probably a dozen pairs of shoes that I haven't worn in years. Why do I keep this crap around? I clean out closets twice a year and take everything to Vintage Values, so why don't I just go whole hog and make a clean sweep?

My size 4 jeans will most likely never be worn again. If I ever get back to that size (ha) I'll celebrate by buying new jeans. And those little tiny Barbie doll slings that looked so cute but hurt my feel - I will never wear those.

WHY?? I don't think of myself as a packrat, but clearly I have the tendency. Yet I had the nerve to mock my poor mother...

:cds:

Mothers get mocked by their kids regardless. That said, I just woke up to the need to dispose of a lot of outdated stuff of my own this year. Seven big black bags went to SMILE. My closet went from bulging to emaciated, and I could dump even more if I didn't care so much. Just a thing, not limited to Ladies.

Having Fun!
I'm not alone!!!! :bann: :bann: :bann:

I keep all of mine because I end up remembering something that I have and then want to wear it again so I dig it out. Invariably, I come across something I forgot that I had and then it's like getting new clothes without having to pay for them.

I know, I need an intervention! :lmao:

not impressed
Place all your clothes on hangers with the hooks on the inside. As you wear, wash, and hang again flip the hook. Every year get rid of whatever you haven't flipped.

 I had the same issue. And then there are the clothes you wore that remind you of some event/place/day you don't want to be reminded of that you cannot get in the trash can quick enough.

Good thing is I'm rid of all that - my massive cleaning did that. :yay:

Surely you jest ...
Thanks for the :buttkick: I should be ashamed of myself with the amount of clothes I have and never wear. Space around here is also at a premium so cleaning out closets would be a big help. Like someone mentioned, I think bagging up a little a day would work best for me. Do they accept things other than clothes at that place you all mentioned? Maybe a clean sweep would be even better. :)

What happens if your face starts to twitch just thinking about hanging the hangers the wrong way? :jameo:
