Why are people so dumb to take their pets to see fireworks??? really???

This is what happens! :coffee:

I agree...what possible reason could you have for taking a dog (especially a teacup) to a firework display. You know damn well the dog is gonna be scared, not to mention, the heat for goodness sake. It never fails to amaze me how ignorant some people can be. Well... I hope they find the poor little thing.

for the love of god... this is one main reason Police K9 will get kicked out.. for being gun shy....

wtf do you think fire works will do to a dog that is not "confident" enough for loud noises?

Aw, that's sad. The thought of a doggy being lost and looking for it's people just hurts my heart.

We have some friends that feel the need to take their dog with them nearly everywhere, even at the expense of others. He's a pretty well behaved dog but it has a lot of health problems and can be kind of gross sometimes. They don't like to leave him alone because they already feel bad about having to leave him for work. And they always imagine that he's at home with his little legs crossed because he has to pee.

My dogs, on the other hand, bark when they get excited. They don't go anywhere unless it's a place where their behavior is accepted and expected. Plus, I find that they are more comfortable at home. Yesterday, my husband didn't work. When I got home and had one dog on my lap napping, my husband said "he's all tuckered out from all the running around he did today," I said "really?" He said "no, silly, he hasn't done crap today except sleep."

it is sad... and worse to think the dog is now dead.. from the heat or he was prey.

I love my dogs as well and i have tested them around firearms. two are sound, one is ok with it, and the other will bolt!!!

I still will not take them for fireworks.

and god bless them this past storm (and the hurricane) but as I worked storm work there were times were I left the house between 4-6 am and didnt get back till 8-11pm. If they had gone I would not be mad... but they held it till i got home.. Usually would never do that to them but no one could get over to let them out.

:killingme, We used to take our girl to the pond or the river to swim, she loved the water. I never took her to fireworks, carnival or fair. She was very well behaved but too many noises and distractions for her to be happy and comfortable.

Someone most likely picked it up. And yes, people are stupid. Why they feel the need to take their pet to carnivals, fairs, etc. is beyond me.

This is what happens when people treat their pets too much like their children. Animals are animals, and yes we love them and they're part of the family, but they are still animals.

happy to be living
At the fireworks in Solomons, I saw a pair of Yorkies, another pair of small dogs (Bichons?), a Beauvia (sp), and a pit bull.

Sad!

You're right. I will be the first to admit though that I treated mine like a child. But I didnt expect everybody else to be tolerant and love my girl as much as I did. Its only natural. Therefore, unless it was a pet function, she never went with us to carnivals, fairs, etc. Like I said earlier, she was very well behaved but not everybody is dog friendly.

yes and no... Mine works for me.... she has turn into my service animal!

I will take her many places but I am selective on where I really need her.

My dog loves fireworks and gunshots. I don't know what it is about loud noises but she wants to get up close and check them out. If someone is setting off fireworks near the house I have to put her in the basement or lock her in the yard.

Apollo is a small dog and he doesn't mind the fireworks noise at all. The neighbor was setting off firecrackers and roman candles in the street and we sat outside to watch.

My Boston doesn't even flinch at noises. We live across from Pax Naval Air Station, so the Jet noise she's use too. We work on our Trucks at the garage, so she's around that all the time. Solomons Fire Works are a skip away from here, so that doesn't bother her one bit. But let the Sail Boaters blow their horns in the River, and she's gone with the wind!!

even my old, nearly deaf dog doesn't like fireworks. Or thunderstorms. I think it's actually worst now that he's getting older. He always dropped his tail and slunk around, but now he pants so hard (even inside in the A/C) when it storms that I think he's going to have a heart attack. It must be because he feels it, and can't hear me sooth him by talking to him.

maybe not so much hearing it .. as he can feel the presure change.. and over the years he knows what that brings.

V told me the strom was on the way ....WAY before it ever started to thunder, rain.. wind..... and after it was all said and done..he crashed out.

have you tried placing him somewere that he feels safe and secure..like the crate?
