You've obviously never been to Hawaii.

I have a few times but I was in drunken tourist mode after work, our crews would always find a reason to RON at Hickam. I can tell you a lot more about Duke's or the Purple Moose Saloon than about the hunting methods used in Hawaii.

My mistake. Hawaii is even worse than Maryland when it comes to firearms and the right to self defense.

Prior to 1900, it was a common practice to cut distinctive marks into the ears of pigs to signify ownership and turn them loose into swamps or woodlands. The pigs would fend for themselves and in the autumn men could join up for a general round-up and then sort the fattened pigs among their owners.
Unfortunately, feral swine, unless they are taken very young, are simply not worth eating.
I have a hard time reconciling these two statements, why would you used to let them loose to fatten up, but now you wouldn't want to eat them if they get to big?
