ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Authorities have closed the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in both directions because of a report of a suspicious package.

Police are saying very little about the package, only that it's on a barge in the water.

Traffic is being diverted onto Route 1 in Virginia and Interstate 295 in Maryland.

I got my information at 7:30 from Elliot who received his information from a trucker so I am correct and Jim Vance is wrong.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Authorities have reopened the Woodrow Wilson Bridge after a report of a suspicious package, but traffic is heavily backed up in both directions.

Police still are not saying anything about the suspicious package that was reported to be on a barge in the water.

Not since 7:30 when traffic was flowing smoothly. I did hear something about the Memorial bridge being closed, too. Where's that at?

Memorial bridge is in DC, goes across Potomac near Arlington Cemetary.

I don't think the Wilson bridge was closed until after 7:30.

Apparently someone got out of their car and started unloading items into the water. :shrug:

I drove across the Wilson Bridge about 7:55 this morning - no backups - traffic was flying. (From Alexandria to MD) The other side is always backed up.

I didn't leave Tyson's Corner until 4:30 this afternoon. There was a 5+ mile backup to the WW Bridge WITHOUT a suspicious package in the water.
