Win 7 vs Win XP

The internal mic went out on my computer last night. I was told that a USB microphone was compatible with any system but when I looked at one on-line from Best Buy, it says it's compatible with Win 98, 2000, XP and Vista. Same person told me that if it works with Vista, it would work with Win 7. Is this true before I go and spend the money on it?

It shouldn't be a problem. If it is, just return it. :yay:

I've found that anything that works with Vista is compatible with Win 7, but then I haven't tried everything. Only found a few of the very old games that won't work with Win 7.

The one or two things I've tripped over ran fine after telling it to run in XP SP3 compatibility mode.

As far as an external mike, it should be recognized as a plain ol' generic audio input device and should work fine.

I'm going to stop by Best Buy after work and get one. I was in the middle of a three way call on Skype when it died. I just had to sit there and make funny faces into the camera to communicate with the other two people. :lmao:

Turned out, there was nothing wrong with the microphone. I started messing with the settings on Skype and when I unclicked a default setting for the sound level of the microphone, it started working again. As long as I don't have it set at the highest level, it was fine. Saved myself $25. :yahoo:

Have him right click on the game shortcut after he installs the game... click on 'compatabilty' tab.... set to 'NT' and 'run as administrator'.

I have a bunch of older games and they all run great on my Win 7 system.... I even have some hacks to get better resolution out of some of the older games. :)

Okay, tough guy...let's see you play Ultima 7 on Windows 7 (there is supposably a utility, but I haven't tried it yet)!

PS: some people recommend this: phorum - Exult Discussion - Ultima 7 in Windows 7

Cool! Thanks, it worked!!

Since your original post was in August, and it's now November. Since you've disabled your password, you may not have noticed by now that occassionally, Win7 (64-bit) doesn't recognize your password, and logs you on with a temp account. Very annoying. It's happened 3 or 4 times in the last year. I'm not sure if disabling the password log on will affect that, or not, but I'll post back if it does.

I only played it long enough to shoot everyone and everything in the town where you start. After that I lost interest.

Hmm ok ....... I hope you did not pay much for it

I am about 1/2 way through 70 + hours ...

I had no problems with Fallout 3 or New Vegas on window's 7. I run them with all settings on max with my cheap best buy computer and they run fine.

Steam had issues with New Vegas when it first came out (ie save games would disappear), but that was an issue with crappy steam, not windows.
