Am I the only Republican who shudders everytime I hear that? Discuss...

You are not the only one, but there should be a reasonable policy. It seems like the Lefties want to take it all away, but the Righties don't want to tax at all. There is a middle road, but I don't know what it is.

Every company pays tax already on profits. That would be a double tax. With oil companies, the people who sold them the oil paid tax. The people who refined it paid tax. The people who put it into your car paid tax. So, lets say the oil companies made the windfall and have to pay the tax. They still target (like our friend XOM) say 10% net. They will just calculate what they need to make 10% net after tax. The price goes up across the board to cover the windfall tax. Woot! Go new tax!

There's windfall where you have a good quarter and then there's obscene where your make a $10,000,000,000 profit in one quarter.

And what good does a windfall tax do for us? Will it lower the cost of gasoline? No, it'll just give the folks in DC more money to spend and the oil companies another reason to whine. We need a way to get the price down, not to enrich the federal government. A windfall tax makes the government no better than the oil companies in this situation... they're both using the current world oil supply to enrich themselves.

Frigging politicians...

Hey! We need money to cover the costs suffered by those hurricane victims. I can accept that. However, why does every proposal look more at harming people who work to get paid (federal employees) instead of looking at cuting bloated entitlement spending for those who don't work?! I always find it funny the politicians will quote how we have to tighten our belts and make tough choices... but they aren't suffering a penny of it! What about their own pork barrels? No! F'ing bastards! Stay away from my pay and go look in your own dirty backyards! If you want to cut payouts, cut bloated entitlements! I work for mine!

Like that bridge to nowhere in Alaska that the senator from there was going to quit the senate over if they cut it out of the transportation bill. They should have called his bluff.

That is a great point. They are just giving themselves a windfall in return with no benefit to the consumer anyway. :yay:

What does it DO???

Why, young man, it does what every red blooded American wants it to do! It gets even, my man, even, I say! Eat the rich! Revenge!

Amercians spend themselves into a credit card coffin, don't save a damn dime and, why, if some bastards are getting ahead, take it from them! Burn them! Who's to say what they SHOULD earn but, by thunder, I know TOO MUCH, like porn-o-graphy, when I see it, sir!

Now, I can't say for sure what an individual may get iffin' the feds were to CONFISCATE this money but, by skippy, at least we'll FEEL like sumpin' been done! Something sir, I say, some THING has been done!

Rally the masses! Eat the rich! Burn them! Tax their BMW's! Up with the little man! Kill success! Who's with me!?!

Thank you and remember next fall; vote early, vote often.

Except our own politicians are even agreeing with them. :banghead:

...well, in that case, it must be OK.

They must be planning on giving it back to me. Otherwise, I stand in opposition.

...of why I laugh at those un-named folks who label us all these right wing ditto heads.

Some of us have been howling long and loud about how much the GOP controlled Congress has been spending since Clintons last term.

TSA
Medicaire presription stuff.
Disrectionary spending

And so on...

Of course, they think the solution to excess spending is Democrats in charge which would means we'd spend the same money but less on the military, so,
sorry.

And those bastards at the Pentagon are evil, too!! All those libbies know it! So evil they even came up with their own plan to cut $15 billion in costs efficiently!
