If you click on the search "magnifying glass" on the bottom left of your task bar, and Type in notepad in the search bar - it should come up for you.

Download Notepad

It should be part of the OS package. Stupid Microsoft. :buttkick:
I didn't have to download it. Actually, I didn't even think about it until this tread because I never use it anymore - I just searched for it tonight and it was there. 🤷

It was word pad that I had and not notepad. Word pad lets you format; notepad doesn't. Installed notepad this morning - not at all what I'm looking for.

They got rid of Wordpad because they want you to buy Microsoft 365 🤪 I never used it, and I don't use my ancient Office apps, I always put my lists in Notepad.

See, now you're going to make me go on another rant about greedy billionaires....

Yeah, Microsoft 365.

Wordpad files are .rtf or .txt files, so you can open them in Notepad to read them.

NOTSMC, Notepad probably has more capabilities than Wordpad did, and once you get used to it you'll probably like it even better!

Sorry, it's been eons since I used Notepad and I guess it is not better then Wordpad.

but Word is! It's not that hard to use, really. It was TONS more features, too! :yay:

I love how those geeks say it's "simple", then go through all these steps that a very casual user won't understand. What would be simple is to just have the WordPad app available for separate download and installation.

:dork:

This is why geeks need laypeople to keep them in the real world. Every one of these developers should have a low level user to do testing. Because when the geeks go, "It's simple! Just go to another computer, copy all these files to a thumbdrive, transfer them to a folder on your current computer, run this, run that, voila!" the user can go, "OR how about if you just make it available for download?"

Well, I don’t think they make it available for download because they don’t own it.

And I suppose you’re right in the sense that something I find pretty quick and easy, can be difficult for someone that isn’t attuned to the guts of the computer system.

Just trying to help though.

Yeah not by choice. Every time it tried to automatically update I said no wait - even scheduled it months later. I woke up one morning and everything was unreadable and all my haircut pictures were messed up. All of them LR. The short and choppy, the naturally curly ones, the layered ones, the ones for women over 50, the don't wear your hair this way if you're over 50...gone...poof. I've been curating that collection since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Its a tragedy.

You've got me conflicted here. I don't know whether to click on the like button, the laughing w/tears face button, or the wow face button. I want to express myself in a exhibitive understanding way.

At least with Win 7, one could force stop the automatic updates and upgrades. One could also make it so that when one wanted to update, you could skip over the known files that the caused many updated related Win 7 functionality problems, and especially those files that would/could force an update. Win 7 for the win.

I mean that MS should make it available for download. I don't know why they just get rid of things that people use. I understand they want us to buy Office but that's not feasible for casual home users. I have an ancient copy of Office that I rarely use for anything, so when it becomes obsolete I can't see spending money for another one.
