?

Assuming you know the consequences of installing an OS, not at all. The only problem I am having is with audio.

:yeahthat:
I'd assume that driver issues could likely occur, but other than that, and the security issues of a new/beta OS, you should be fine

Generic hardware minus the motherboard (Macintosh).

Everything except my TV tuner card worked with every beta and release candidate of Vista.

I'm gonna put it on the desktop for a few months and then put Suse Linux back on after that.

How do you get the beta version? Do you have to sell your soul to the devil or what?

I'm triplebooting XP, 7 AND Linux (Kubuntu 8.10 to be exact)
My specs:
Intel Pentium 4, 3GHz
3 GB RAM
80 GB Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

Only thing I had to do since Windows 7 was installed last was to restore my GRUB bootloader menu. Once I tweaked that, I was able to have the boot menu show up at startup so I can choose whatever OS I want.
I'm typing this out on the Windows 7 side of the house.
So far it's been very stable and I've had no issues with drivers *knock on wood*

Why do it? Cause I can, and I like playing around on computers.

I've already set aside a computer to dork with and it seems to be OK. My office mate installed it on his Dell XPS 1530 laptop and it croaked on the Video Driver. We did not investigate to hard though... he is going to wait as he has other issues to hammer out. :yay:

Well, I'm glad you guys like to debug it. After 30 years and all day here "playing" with computers, the last thing I want to do when I get home is more computer stuff. I check my email and the forums, and I'm done. TYVM.

I am just test flying it here at work, doing this stuff at home would drive me crazy.

Just finished installing Windows 7. Seems to be working well, and has not messed with my Touchscreen compabilities. We shall see...

If we choose to install the beta version, what happens when beta testing is completed and the production version is released? Do the people with Win 7 beta get the production upgrade for free or are they stuck with the beta version, have to revert to XP or Vista???

It should time-bomb (expire) August 1, 2009... after that, you buy it or revert back.

I have heard if you are a preferred customer they throw you a free upgrade, but I have never seen it personally.

Uninstalled it due to glitches the day after I put it in. I hope it was just my machine that did not like it. Highly doubtful considering mine is less than a year old.

It's a Microsoft beta. Always take it with caution. If it farks up your hardware, theres no warranty for you to fall back on. You'd be dishing out of your own pocket.

Guess it's best to leave it alone then. If it is like switching from XP to Vista, it is too big a pain in the a$$ to reinstall all the programs. At least Vista creates that nice little file and dumps all the .exe files there for you. Still takes a couple or three days to get everything back under the one roof again.
