I'm thinking about changing over to XP. Other than the fact I can't purchase it once and use it on my laptop and desktop, will all of my other software work or do I also need to re-purchase Office and other windows programs?TIA

You can purchase it once and use it on both your laptop AND your desktop. You might need to call them for a new activation, though.

My Office 2000 transferred just fine to my new XP box.

True with Office 200 and 98
but Office XP and 2003 can only be on 1 computer at a time. They go out to the internet and check. Being on 2 computers would most likely work but it COULD lead to both being dorked up and then you would have to call Microsoft and they would have to ask why it was on more than one computer and then they could fix it to work with ONE computer.

I thought when they went with the activation system, MS said you could have it on one laptop and one desktop?

vrai is correct on XP OS, which is what I thought this topic was about, and I am fairly sure she is correct on the Office software as well. You are still the owner of the software, and you are still the sole user. Now, if you are putting on your computer and your friends computers, that is different. I sure miss those days.

Thanks for the replies, went to the source (MS) and found the scoop. XP OS can only be loaded on 1 computer period. You can purchase an additional license at a discounted price. Office XP and Office 2000 can be loaded on your desktop as well as your laptop.
