If you have it do you like it? I was thinking of installing it but wanted some opinions first.

I put in in then took it out. I didn't like it at all. Now there is a 9 I think. Does anyone have 9? Do you like it?

I just bought a new desktop last night with Win 7 so I'll be finding out here soon. My Vista CPU completely died, won't even boot. Now I got to figure out how to get my 1000+ IPod songs off it... :(

That's Internet Exlorer 9, not an operating system

Take the hard drive out of the vista machine and plug it into the Win7 machine

I've been running Win7 for about 2 years now, at home and at work. Aside from a minor 3rd party incompatibility now and again, Win7 is by far the most stable version of Windows so far. Yes, things are in slightly different places and you have to get used to it. The backup utility is finally useable and actually works well.

If you are planning on buying and installing it on an older PC, make sure you read the hardware requirements carefully. The Aero displays require a bit more horsepower than most older PCs have, and you want no less than 3GB of memory (to use more than 3GB, you'll need the 64 bit version of Win7, and then only if your PC supports 64 bit, which I suspect it may not if it's older).

One of the nicest features is the recovery time from standby. I put my laptop in standby, and when I open the cover I can work with full network access in under 10 seconds.

In comparison to XP Pro... about the same as far as performance IMO for what I use my computers for. Others may disagree depending on their purpose. Compared to Vista.. extreme improvement. Much more stable, and you can find things better. I agree, there is a little learning curve on things like add/remove programs (which is now just programs), finding files, and where your documents are kept.. but nothing you can't learn in a couple minutes.
