I had a serious problem with my Lennox system -- a top of the line model that was installed with the new house construction. I called Winters (the installer) three times over a period of months to come look at it. Every time they sent the same old guy out. He could never figure out what was wrong and just wanted to BS. His pat answer was always that I just needed to change the air filter.
Finally, having had enough, I called the office and explained the problem and said that I was not happy at having to spend 3x $75 just to be incorrectly told I needed to change the air filter. I asked to speak to a manager just in the interest of getting the problem fixed. I spoke to one of the owners (he had the same last name anyway) and explained the problem. he said, oh yeah sounds like a so and so and sent a young kid out to fix it. Never had a problem again.
They removed one of the $75 charges for Mr. Air Filter. But, when I got the bill for the final call, they had the balls to charge me for the time I spoke to the owner on the phone. I should have called them, but just decided to pay it and never use them ever again.
Sadly, Lennox is one of those manufacturers that sets up sales zones for their products. They only allow one dealer in a zone to sell and service their products -- thus keeping the prices artificially high. If you buy new, go with a brand that has support from several local service companies.
Someone else mentioned Tri-County Aire. I called them for an estimate to relocate the outside air exchanger a few feet. They came back with some ridiculous charge. I finally called Burch Oil. The guy was very helpful and his quote was less than a third of Tri-County. To top it off, this guy from Tri-County asks to use the Jon. So of course I say yes assuming he has to do a #1. Well, several minutes and some nasty odors later, its obvious that #1 was not his intention. I'm sorry, but you don't go to a customer's house to give them an estimate and then take a dump in their bathroom. For crying out loud!
