Wireless Question

Router to the computer. How is that wireless. I want to be able to move around with it. Sorry if I dont understand.

Is the laptop your only computer?

Actually now that I think about it, you do not have to have the modem hooked up to any computer if it is going into a wireless router. We just got rid of our dinosaur Gateway PC tower. Now the cable is just coming into the cable modem, then the router is connected to the modem. All of our computers are connected wirelessly.

The router would plug into the cable modem. Instead of plugging your computer into the cable modem. The the router would broadcast the signal from the cable modem as a wireless frequency. You have to make sure that your computer either has a wireless card already installed or you will have to purchase a wireless card for it. If you have a laptop you will get a PCMCIA card or USB. If it is a Desktop just go with the USB. Much easier to install. You will not have to open the computer up to install it.

I am assuming I do not have to buy anything for the laptop, other than the wireless router, I am able to get wireless connections when I travel. So I must have a wireless card already.

Ok...i have dial up...the modem is built into my pc. I want to buy a laptop to be used around the house. Can you tell me what I need to do to get the laptop wireless, (laptop will already be able to go wireless (build in) My thinking is. I need to get a router to plug to my pc then to phone line, thats it should work? NO? not sure of directions and the idiots at Best buy are telling me 15 different things.
