Wolf Spiders

I didn't get a picture but last Spring.. about the time of the Memorial Day picnic.. the entire end of our house was covered with spiders. Not exaggerating, there wasn't one square inch of the siding that didn't have a spider in it.

They would extend their back legs, spin a little silk, and when the breeze picked up it would snatch them fromthe house and send them on their way. Hopefully they stayed aloft for a LONG time, because the breeze that day (I think) was sending them towards NitWhit's house!

Could be...attached themselves to the outside of my apartment...eww..they are nasty...I just smack em with my trusty reef flip flop and kapow! PaLo applesauce!

They call that ballooning. It's actually rather interesting as they can reach the stratosphere, freeze, cross incredible distances, thaw, and survive.

I spend too much time watching the science channel.

... and if you've got kids, you can let them walk in front of you to find the webs.

I do not care. I want them all dead.


However, I'm willing to compromise. We can have one -- ONE -- type of spider on the planet - no thousands. And it has to be one that will not be scary looking or get too big. And it has to dislike my house. And car.

not sure about that, but I do know that if you are riding the C&O canal on bikes, in the morning you need to get the other guy to ride in front to break the webs for you.

not that I would do such a thing.

by the way,, anyone seen foxhound lately?

I don't think riding into spider webs is such a bad thing. However remind me if I EVER bike the C&O canal again, NOT to do it with someone who is trying to quit smoking!!!

I have tons of spider stories that would amuse the masses but I'm not sharing yet.

Nic, I've seen a ton of those in GA but I never remeber seeing the zig zag in the web and I remember them being longer and skinnier. The only time I've seen one this far north was when we had the house in Mechanicsville. We had two rockers on the front porch and one webbed from the top of the rocker to the ground. About 4ft tall I guess. The ones down south would web from the gutter to the ground at my aunts house. Ickola!

I like to blow on it's web so the spider will start to bounce it like he's on a little spider trampoline wheeeeeeeee.......

I like to catch a fly, throw it on the web, then stand back and say in a small high voice, "help me. help me!!
