I've seen him and/or his brethen around my house knocking away at the trees.

I hear them all the time but rarely see them. I did take my dogs for a walk through the woods tonight and saw three deer, a possum, and a raccoon, plus an assortment of birds.
About 15-20 feet. It's a cropped photo of about a 200mm lens shot. Through the kitchen window, but when I tried with the window open they could hear the shutter and that was all for them. You got some good pictures.David said:How close were you and how did you manage to sneak up on him? The ones here bolt at the slightest human movement.

Our bluebirds have been hanging out and looking at our houses recently. We usually have a nesting pair every year.OldHillcrestGuy said:Ive had alot of little peckers this winter more then the past and a few big peckers (must be the viagra)
The little woodpeckers love the suet cakes. Ive had alot more cardinals this year then past years and a few blue jays which I have never had many of in past years.
Sunday morning I was looking in the area of the bird feeder and saw my first bluebirds of the season one male, one female, so I went out and evicted the sparrows from the bluebird houses in hopes that they may settle in my yard this year instead of down the road. I use to always get bluebirds settling in the houses, but past 2 years they have passed me by.
Here you go. I finally got lucky.Rane said:Good morning everyone !

If it wasn't for the wifey keeping her eagle eyes peeled I'd never see these things going on.Fubar said:Great PIX desertrat! I've got a family of 5 living on my property-never can get a pix of them though!

Still sore and can't chew on that side. Call in to the dentist.jazz lady said:BSGal is finally feeling better, huh?
Great picture. I saw a woodpecker this morning as I was letting the animals out, but all I got was a glimpse as he didn't like the sight of three kitties and two doggies coming his way.
Hopefully they'll make it better.BS Gal said:Still sore and can't chew on that side. Call in to the dentist.
Maybe desertrat just doesn't like peanuts. :shrug:However, I do look out my kitchen window a lot on weekends. There is always some wildlife or other out back. I was hoping a could lure the big pecker in with peanuts like I do the smaller ones, but he isn't interested.

I think so. I'm putting out five pounds a week, but so far, no big peckers. Maybe I need to try something else.cattitude said:Is THAT how you do it?
