Work at home?

crabcake

But wait, there's more...
but think about the tax deductions toxick :really:

just kidding! at that rate, it probably isn't worth it for her to work. but you are going to be really limited as to what she can do from home and make money. a lot of those things you see ad's for to "work from home" (stuffing envelopes, doing mailers, etc.) are just scams.

now if she's been a stay-at-home mom for a while, there may be some program she can get in at the community college to take some classes in something (medical transcriptions, desktop publishing, etc.) that she could do from home. they may even swing the child care for her as well as the cost of the classes. might be worth a look-in-to ... just do yourself a favor and don't send anyone any money for "work at home" information. you are only paying someone else to put that ad out there from the comfort of their home.

If you pay....$150.00 for daycare for a two year old and up, The Daycare is open 6:00 am to 6:00 pm (12 hours), that is a 60 hour work week. Broken down that is $2.50 an hour. Would you work for $2.50 an hour? I'm going out on a limb here, but,... most people consider their children the most important thing in their lives. That being the case how is $2.50 an hour to be considered "ridiculous as Toxick suggest?

Find me the daycare that is open 6-6 and I'll be impressed. Plus, there is more than one kid in each home. You may be paying 2.50/hr, but so are 2, 5, or 7 others. Not to mention the number of kids in a commercial daycare center.

It's all well and good to tell Toxick that he's getting a bargain for quaility care of his kids. That's true, good care is priceless, but when one person in the family is making, say $40K, taking home $24K, is paying for gas/parking/bus/metro plus wear and tear on the car plus wardrobe/dry cleaning plus $5-20 for every coworker's birthday/death in family/Xmas party/retirement etc. $5-10 Lunches out (ok, you can brown bag it, but who does that everyday?)Then paying $12,000 or more for 2 kids in daycare. Why work? There's nothing left and you save the $12,000, $16,000 in taxes, $500 in coworker relation donations $1500 in traveling expenses and dry cleaning and your kids get the best caregiver in the world, Mom or Dad.

Psst, If you DO keep working, I have openings

Quite possibly for what you sell, but I know a few people that are making good money. Maybe you should consider "Ghosts in Jars!" :bubble:

I tallied it up for all three of my kids, it's $14400 per year for Day Care.

If wife takes a job at a minimum wage entry level position, she will make less than that, and will defeat the entire purpose of her taking the job - which is not to spend less time with the children, but to bring more income into the household.

She'd be better off staying home and seeing the kids, instead of breaking her back for, in effect, no reason at all.

Don't take offense at my use of the word ridiculous.
No offence taken

I guess if you have a family making only 40K a year, staying home is the best option, I make more than than that, live all by myself and "get by". When faced with the same problem years ago, my ,then wife, stayed at home with my son and opened her home based day care. We had three children, she had the best of every world, she had her own business and got to raise and see her own children grow up. We went from six kids to 30 kids in a span of ten years, the daycare went from the house to a separate facility that we were able to get a small business loan from the State of Maryland with.

It makes so when the baby comes I will have to pay for daycare. I also do some daycare. Sometimes there lots of money with it other times it's hard. But we always find a way. I want to be able to take care of the baby to come. So daycare works.
