..she hasn't been herself for about 4 days, isn't finishing her whole supper, kind of lethargic. Last night, wouldn't touch dinner, drank a ton of water and then vomited a lot, looked like a lot of brown rice from pervious meal. Very quiet last night after that, won't even look at food and has thrown up the water she drank this morning. Sleeping now....thoughts? TIA!

How old is she?
Is she running a temp: fever?
How hydrated is she? ( with the throwing up, I would be concerned about keeping her hydrated).

Did she actually have brown rice for dinner?
If not, could be digested blood, which could mean she is bleeding somewhere...(folks with ulcers will relate to this: vomiting digested blood...ie: brown stuff)

I would call you vet in the am....this going on for 4+ days is not good for anyone....dogs included.

I would be concerned about hydration first and calories second.

Keep us posted!
:hugs:

She's not interested in eating at all this morning.

I'd be concerned about an intestinal blockage..that's what I asked if she is a junk eater and if she is pooping.

How's her color? Look at her gums... You can check for dehydration by pinching/pulling the skin at her scruff to see if it goes back into place quickly. If it doesn't, that can be an indication of dehydration.

You should also check her temp. Normal is about 100 - 102 (give or a take).

First, thanks to everyone for concern and help.

Gum color is good, scruff goes right back. She doesn't eat junk, but I do make food for her, brown rice, vegetables and a little chicken. She gets a couple of biscuits when I leave in the morning and day before yesterday, they were still on the kitchen floor when I got home, that was the first real sign anything was wrong. Last night, tail was tucked after she got sick, but up and wagging when she woke me at 7 am. She seemed better this morning until she threw all that water back up. I hate to admit this, but we don't own a thermometer.

When I said "junk" I meant sticks, rocks, socks...that type of thing.

Dogs do get "bugs" just like humans. Typically you should withhold food and water for 24 hours after the last barf or diarrhea. Give her ice cubes for water but just let her lick them. Then start her back on rice...then chicken..for a day or so and if all's well start back on her regular food.

This is assuming she's just got a bug. Given her age, I'd have her checked out.

Good luck. :yay:

No, not a junk eater in that way. I worked last night, so no halloween candy in the house.

I just took her water up... she walked the yard for a few minutes, but didn't do anything.

I'm still going to call the evt in the morning, unless she seems A LOT better. She's up and around a little more now, thanks so much!

she needs a vet check. I'm sure if she's throwing up and not eating, she's dehydrated and that's a big deal for any recovery of illness. I would have taken her yesterday or even thursday. Don't end up kicking yourself for not taking her in. The peace of mind and knowing you are doing all you can to help her is so worth it. good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I would make an appt. at the vet (or clinic) asap. Sadly, one of my passed this morning from the flu that was passed on from my dad. Better safe than sorry. :( Hope your baby feels better soon!

Thank you...I'm so sorry to hear of you loss.

Adopt me please !
So sorry - My Rottie was acting like he wasn't feeling well for a few days and I made an appt with the vet but he died that morning before the vet appt. I took his body to the vet who said he was jaundiced. Death can come pretty fast, so next time I have an ill pet, I'll not wait as long to get to the vet, that's for sure.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that.:bawl:

Is Jack the girl that you were worried about?
Did you find out what was wrong?

We have beagles and the ONLY time one of them decided to refuse food and acted lethargic, was when our beagle x doxie had Pyometra. It was awful. I have never before or since seen her refuse to move or to eat or drink. She laid in her favorite spot with her tail tucked under. I absolutly knew something was wrong and took her the the 24hr vet in waldorf. They saved her life. COST US LIKE $1500.00 to have an emergency spay.

And as Bob Barker has said for years, “spay and neuter your pets."

Yes, she was the one...It turned out to be a number of things, but mostly her liver. Rick stayed with her to the end and I can't even imagine how that felt. We have a lot of healing to do, but I sooooo appreciate all the kindness on these boards. This is a true animal community.
