I didn't read the link, but I do remember a story from quite a few years ago, where a child got lead poisoning from his parents home, and being family the home owners insurance refused to cover the child. If he was a stranger no problem, but being of the family they wouldn't budge. The parents hired their child a lawyer to sue them for damages.
