Very interesting. Opens up a lot of questions.

I knew a girl here that didn't want her bf to have anything to do with her baby, since they had broken up before she knew she was pregnant. When her daughter was born, she told the doctor that it was a one night stand and she had no clue as to the name of the guy that was the father (since she had to complete a birth certificate). Not saying what she did was right or wrong - just that's how that went down.

Wonder if our adoption laws require father knowing???

I also knew a guy that had a one night stand and 17 years later discovered he had a daughter with this woman (he demanded a paternity test once he found out). He had a son with his wife that was only a few months younger than this unknown daughter, and the two children went to school together and knew one another. Can you imagine if they had dated? You'd think this stuff only happens on general hospital. :lmao:

That happened on All My Children with Erica and Mark Dalton. He was her illegitimate brother and they were having a romance. They found out they were brother and sister before they did the wild thing, though.

My sister's neighbor adopted a boy recently. They (the mother or adoption agency, I'm not sure) had to post a public bulletin in the paper for a certain amount of time...maybe two weeks or something. It's not likely the father will actually read it, but it covers them in case he ever comes forward.

The father "has no rights" but I wonder what would happen if the woman decided to keep the child and then file a petition for child support. Interesting.

Thats what I'm saying. This girl wouldn't even let her parents adopt the child. How does she know that the father of the child wouldn't want to raise the baby even if she didn't want it. If she didn't want the child the father should have been given the option to raise the child even if it was a one night stand. In circumstances like this she should have no right to ask for child support if she decided to keep the baby.
