So what did we "learn" from these off year elections (years ending in odd numbers)?

Another state wants to legalize pot. Ho hum.
A Democratic governor in a red state wins re-election. Ho hum. Larry Hogan, anyone? NOT a big deal.
Kentucky has had only three Republican governors since WW2. It is not unusual.

Tate Reeves wins re-election in a state where lots of Democrat money was poured in, to defeat him. Not even a big deal.

Virginia's legislature is a hot mess to sort out - but we're talking the Dems netting three seats. This, after a massive redistricting as a consequence of the 2020 Census, where 18 "new" seats were created, Dems took 11 of them, Republicans, 7. The real issue is, how many "flipped", since most incumbents won? I counted six. Three apiece, so a net zero.

I'm not seeing anything earth-shaking about any of these votes. Virginia is a purple state, and will remain that way. They seem to flip governors often.

The issue that needs to be of concern is the one that helped the Dems in 2022, and if the Republicans don't shift their positions on this, it will cost them. They need to give up the crusade that wishes to abolish abortion across the board, across the nation. This is one thing in politics you can count on - if you insist on going ALL THE WAY to the left or right on an issue, you 100% guarantee the fight will not end. BOTH SIDES do this - for example, the left wants to ban ALL GUNS, and that is never going to work. The right wants to ban all abortions, and that is never going to work. They need to find out what Americans want, and strike a middle ground which is amenable to both sides. And this is weird for me to say, but they could take a page from Europe, which as progressive as they're SUPPOSED to be, generally they're more restrictive than we are.

But they have mostly codified some very understandable conditions for abortion. And one the left doesn't want at all is, after a certain length of time, abortions aren't allowed at all.

THIS SHOULD BE REASONABLE. In the United States, most abortions occur early. CDC says 93% occur before 13 weeks and about another 6%, between 14-20. So ANYONE with a lick of sense SHOULD be happy with a 20 week cutoff. This is common in Europe. MOST of all abortions are done by a pill. This is common. It is ridiculous that the left should fight so vigorously for abortions up until - and sometimes, AFTER - birth. Statistically and medically, it makes no damned sense. The extreme right wants to ban it as early as six weeks - AND wants to ban the morning after pill. This to me, is a ridiculous option - it's way too early for women to even KNOW they are pregnant IF they have no access to the morning after pill.

Find a middle ground. Promote it as such. Republicans WILL lose on this issue. They "won" in the Supreme Court. Whoopee. It should have always been like that. Referendums in several red states have shown, people still want the choice to abort, even if they are personally against it AND EVEN if they would never have one, themselves.

I believe Reps picked up a seat in the VA Senate, just didn't win the majority.

I just can't believe that *abortion* is that important to people.

Or maybe I can because the people who want to be able to kill their children at full term or even after birth are the same ones who want teachers making life altering decisions for children, and want doctors to surgically and chemically destroy their bodies if they play cowboys instead of Barbies. They cheer on pedophiles and grieve when child rapists are imprisoned. They want kindergartners to know how to commit unspeakable sex acts, with instruction manuals in their school libraries.

Democrats are sick evil beings.

If 2020, '22, and '23 teaches us anything, it's abortion is important. If it's a down ballot issue in states next year, Dems at the Federal level will benefit.

Get some new talking points. You are a broken record saying the same thing g over and over again. You should seek therapy for your obsession with trump. It’s actually a little disturbing.

Says the people who wrap their homes in Trump flags and disown family for not supporting trump.

The same ones who attacked their own capitol because he told them to.

You don't see a lot of Biden supporters with flags, attacking people or making it their entire personality as you guys do.

Me neither but the data is clear. It’s important to a lot of people and not JUST dyed in the wool Dems. There have been referendums in red states favoring abortion.

Now, what I rarely get is why it is important to someone who is never going to have one and doesn’t personally know anyone who will. But it remains a trigger issue.

My mom passed some years ago, but abortion was absolutely her essential issue. If a candidate supported it, they lost her vote for life.

I think some people on both sides are diehard ideologues who think any compromise is defeat. That relinquishing any ground means incremental loss of rights. Thus all rights must be absolute.

Considering how often that actually happens, I understand and share their concern.

The 2nd Amendment and 4th Amendment have been shredded for decades.

And see, the two sides are going to HAVE to have agreement somewhere or it’s an eternal battle. In some parts of the world - the matter is settled and protests are over. And astonishingly abortion starts to go DOWN.

When you have pitched camps where the extremes are the only choices, there can never be a solution. Not unless you convince one side to change their mind. You can’t win an issue narrowly and celebrate and neener neener your opponent. They won’t go away.

TRUMP understood this as a businessman. Maybe not so much as a politician or diplomat. But you reach agreements with BOTH sides pleased with the outcome. You can’t squeak a win by one point on the last play.

Most of what you are saying makes way too much common sense and evangelicals and the more radical Republicans will never agree to it. They want to prosecute mothers for having medicinally induced abortions before the date of viability.

Can you show me where Democrats are fighting to have abortions legalized after birth? Because you show examples to say both sides are extreme yet only one of those examples has any truth to it

"aborting a baby" after birth is called murder. Not abortion. No one is arguing for that unless they are insane. And it is a lie and oft repeated talking point that doesn't even make any sense.
