I wonder how muich overtime is being spent on the DCPD for all this extra guarding of the memorials.

My country, 'tis of Thee,
Sweet Land of Liberty
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountain side
Let Freedom ring.
My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills,
My heart with rapture thrills
Like that above.
Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet Freedom's song;
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.
Our fathers' God to Thee,
Author of Liberty,
To thee we sing,
Long may our land be bright
With Freedom's holy light,
Protect us by thy might
Great God, our King.
Our glorious Land to-day,
'Neath Education's sway,
Soars upward still.
Its hills of learning fair,
Whose bounties all may share,
Behold them everywhere
On vale and hill!
Thy safeguard, Liberty,
The school shall ever be,
Our Nation's pride!
No tyrant hand shall smite,
While with encircling might
All here are taught the Right
With Truth allied.
Beneath Heaven's gracious will
The stars of progress still
Our course do sway;
In unity sublime
To broader heights we climb,
Triumphant over Time,
God speeds our way!
Grand birthright of our sires,
Our altars and our fires
Keep we still pure!
Our starry flag unfurled,
The hope of all the world,
In peace and light impearled,
God hold secure!

There's a grave right near the White House
Where the Unknown Soldier lies
And the flowers there are sprinkled
With the tears of mothers' eyes.
I stood there not so long ao
With roses for the grave
When suddenly I thought I heard
A voice speak from the grave.

"I am the Unknown Soldier"
The spirit voice began,
"And I think I've got a right
To ask some questions, man to man.

Are my buddies taken care of?
Was their victory so sweet?
Is that big reward you promised,
Selling pencils in the street?

Did they really win the freedom
That they battled to achieve?
Do you still respect the Croix de Guerre
Above that empty sleeve?

Does the gold star in the window
Now mean anything t all?
I wonder how my old gal feels
When she hears the bugle call?

And that baby that sang
'Hello Central, give me to No Man's Land;'
Can they replace her daddy
With a military band?

I wonder if the profiteers
Have satisfied their greed?
I wonder if the soldier's mother
Ever is in need?

I wonder if the kings
Who planned it all are satisfied?
They played their game of checkers
And eleven million died!

Oh, I'd like to see their faces
When they reach the Devil's door,
But even down in Hell
There is no torture such as war.

I am the Unknown Solder
And maybe I died in vain,
But if I were alive and my country called
I'd do it all over again."

I do believe that the WWII memorial was built with private funds and those surplus funds are used to maintain it.

Actually they do cost money to operate - protection, picking up the trash comes immediately to mind. The park service people are the ones that handle that and they're in long enough to baricade things today.

Tell me again about the Chinese woman who desecrated the Lincoln Memorial months ago before the selective shutdown of United States Executive functions.

WWII Vets Return Home

This is from a young man I have known for 16 yrs. He recently joined the Navy and is now training to be an Advanced Technician. I have changed this young man's diapers and watched him grow into an amazing young man. I wanted to share his experience with everyone:

Took the opportunity and volunteered for Honor Flight the other night. We arrived in our dress whites at Midway Airport to a crowd applauding us. I felt overwhelmed having people thanking me and my fellow shipmates for our service, but that was nothing compared to what came next.

We stood at attention and saluted WWII veterans as they returned home from their trip to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials. I can't even describe the honor of being able to show respect to America's real heroes! Chicago's Finest even provided a bagpipe and drum detachment as an instrumental backdrop for this incredible ceremony.

Something about the sound of bagpipes just sends chills through my entire being. After saluting the veterans we formed up, marched, and received cheers, applause, and what can only be described as a patriotic parade through Midway Airport.

I shook hundreds of hands, thanked so many people for their service, and also got thanked for mine. I have never been so humbled in my life. The weight of America's love for it's service men and women is unbelievable. I got to speak to a lieutenant colonel, the Command Master Chief of TSC Great Lakes, and I even got a Bravo Zulu! All and all an amazing experience.

Conservatives visit thes memorials and Conservatives, as the name implies, do not leave trash.

Why are these places blocked off anyhow? It makes no sense. They don't cost any money to be (I won't say open, I'll say "unblocked"). I get shutting down the museums, zoos, even shutting the fountains off in the reflecting pools - but why (besides the obvious political ploy) would these self guided monuments be restricted?

Barry told the Park Service to make this hard on the people. Heard a private business along the Blue Ridge Parkway was blockaded. And now, the overlooks along the highway near Mt. Rushmore have been closed. Traffic cones.
