Yard Treatments

Does anyone have any experience with TruGreen lawn care service? Was looking at having them come out to try and spruce up my poor, dead yard.

I called them a couple of months ago and after negotiating the price over the phone agreed to sign on to their services. The gentleman was very professional and assured me that they would be out early the following week (this was a Friday), but no later than 10 days. After 14 days I still hadn't seen anyone so I called to question why. The lady I spoke to informed me quite kurtly that they were busy and running behind, and that they would get out there early the next week. Another 7 days went by and I still hadn't seen anyone so I called and cancelled. Of course at that point they decided they could be out at 3:00 that afternoon for 1/2 the price. Looking back I should have bit on that offer but pride wouldn't allow me to :) I was very disappointed because I was so looking forward to a weed free lawn. They offer 7-8 treatments per year (if I remember correctly) and show up about every 6 weeks. Negotiate the price if you do choose to go with them as I was able to get $30 or so off each treatment from the orginal estimate I was quoted. Good luck!

I did not use them, but did have them come out and quote me a price a couple of years back. Their price was higher than the price Scott's offered so I went with Scott's...although I only opted for 4 of the recommended 8 services per year.
Scott's did a good job and the yard looked great so I'd say it was worth it to me. However, I decided that I now want to tackle it on my own so I no longer pay Scott's to do it.
My neighbor has TruGreen do his yard once in the spring...just to get ahead of the weeds. He is very happy with them.

I worked in lawn care for a long while and can tell you that it most often the applicator that makes a difference rather than the company. I doesn't matter who you hire, the salesman isn't the one to do the work and if they have lazy employees then you will have bad results. No matter who you use, ask for references not only from the company but for the applicator who will be doing your lawn. Most of guys have specific area's they work in and they should be able to tell you who will be preforming your work. Good Luck

Just to update this I went ahead and called TruGreen the day I made the first post (5/24). They said they would be out in 7-10 days.

I had to call them on Friday to ask why they hadn't come out yet. They apologized and "set me up an appointment" for Tuesday 6/21.

So we'll see. If they are no-shows tomorrow I'll be getting my money back. But, before I get too hissy, I should probably ask if anyone knows if they'll come out if it rains? Seems rather silly to me to show up and try and spray stuff in the rain, but what do I know?

And another no-show. Called them and they offered to schedule me in for next week. Requested a refund, hopefully that will go better!

TruGreen's a PITA. We use them and they come out regularly. Sometimes TOO regularly, which gets expensive. We get an occasional sales call for additional treatments, but the calls are not annoyingly frequent. Calling them can be a real pain as well - sounds like whoever answers is also running a very large noisy in-home daycare center. Or sometimes it sounds like you get her shiftless no-account son. But...the grass looks great. Had to make several calls to finally get the aerating done last fall...but it did get done eventually.

Neighbor uses MRW; his grass looks nearly as good; he's got less shade than us. Haven't asked him how the service is.

Still no refund. Just finished filing a BBB complaint. This is now the third time they have said "Oh, we see that you wanted a refund. That's strange that it hasn't been processed yet. We'll get that started for you."

Okay, I'm frustrated.
