proudof3 said:Let me repost...The creation of Black History Month was not solely based upon race, but it was about contributions in general regardless of race. We all celebrate various holidays, but race is not mentioned as factor in debating whether it should be eliminated or not talked about. The majority of federal holidays are based around non Afro Americans.

She needs to apply her so call knowledge to doing some real reading and educating herself to know why Black History Month originated instead of applying her time and energy to posting comments in newspapers leaving the impression to me that she is very ignorant.
Here's some history for her and facts. Black History Month was started by Dr. Carter G. Woodson (A Black Man) who choose the second week of February because it corresponded to the birthdays of Frederick Douglass (Another Black Man) and Abraham Lincoln (A White Man). Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time I checked Abraham Lincoln was a White man. You came off making your comments that I take offense to because you made it seem about race when in all reality it's not. In today's society and throughout the years the meaning of Black History Month may have been turned around to focus only on Blacks, but it's not all about race.
Good thing it isn't:PrchJrkr said:Racism isn't a crime. To each his/her own.

I don't even so much have a problem with there being a date set aside to bring attention to a person or groups accomplishments, but I do think a whole month is a bit over kill.
