Yet Another Wreck!!!

And really only works when both lanes are moving at speed and can adjust and merge like a zipper, as opposed to crawling at 0-10 mph and forcing your way in.

There also has to actually be enough space between cars for people to merge between them. The typical following distances around here are much less than they should be and that alone makes changing lanes and merging difficult and even unsafe.

Is this a serious question?? I will go on the assumption that it is :yay:

Can you see those shorter "dashed" lines? That is indicative of lane splitting between a travel lane and a merge lane. This is where you can merge from the merge lane into the travel lane.

Now, can you see those SOLID white lines? Those are indicative of lane separation. You are NOT legally allowed to merge "over" the solid white lines. This.... right here.... occurs multiple times EVERY... SINGLE.... DAY!!! Cars cutting in at the last second before the signal (which you can see... is a solid white line)

Hell... last night I saw a Sheriff's SUV make a right turn out of NAS Gate 1 onto 235 on a red light. In case some of you do not know... there is a NO TURN ON RED sign plain as day. No lights, no nothing... just turned and kept going only to stop at the next red light.

I suppose if our LEO isn't going to follow traffic laws, why should we??

That's nothing, one night I was coming out of the base, I got into the left lane coming out of gate 1. I make my left turn and I want into the right lane on 235, suddenly I see a base police car on the outside of me making that turn also and almost side swipe it. In case you don't know there is only a single left turn lane coming out of Gate 1, apparently the base cop didn't know that.

You are looking at the SB, easy side to call :) And yes, following the stripe/solid rule is a pet peeve of mine too. But I'm looking at the northbound side, where the traffic from the third lane at the NB light and the people coming from Rt4 westbound have to merge. Those lane markings not so easy to parse.

What is not to understand? The exact same ideas and rules apply as I stated before. There is a solid line (do not cross) and a dashed line (cross here to merge)

The lane length is not as long as others along the NB side however, the rules still apply.

Here's an idea, instead of flying around a corner because it's a YIELD and you DON'T HAVE TO STOP - trying stopping and waiting for a break in traffic where you can merge.
People are hell bent on getting in the right lane with no place to go except to keep traveling down the turn lane / shoulder of the road until they run out of asphalt.

The SO and I just did a 1800 mile road trip and took notice. Drivers in SOMD and NOVA are significantly worse IE: inattentive, unpredictable and discourteous than everywhere else we went.

I was stationed in Maine for over 10 years. Even with the influx of summer vacationers, winter months and being as rural as you could possibly get, the accident rate was far less than this area. I witness the locals here inattention to driving on a daily basis, and that is what I believe results in accidents. If we all just put down the phones and pay attention to driving along with planning the route in our heads before we leave point "A", we would arrive at point "B" with far less risk. I've expressed to the wife I would like to sit near 235 one day after work and take pictures of all the people on their phones or otherwise distracted and post them on social media.... but she told me it would be a waste of time as there are limits on how much you can post.

I almost t-boned someone today leaving the Lowe's parking lot.
Some idiot in a "crossover" vehicle pulled out of the access road between Ruby Tuesday and Giant right in from me without slowing to look for oncoming traffic.

I usually make a right out of Worth Ave (don't venture going straight across), then bang a u-ey at the Giant entrance, so I was clearly on 1st Colony and had right of way.

Same here. I've got a whole atlas worth of alternate pathways I take around the county to avoid crappy roadways. I don't take RT 4 to L-town as that merge with RT 5 is horrible. I would never leave CSM by the RT 5 exit wanting to turn left. I never leave the Hospital or Moakley street onto Rt 5 unless I'm going north. I travel directly through the Shangri-La/Willows/Great Mills Road intersection or take right turns, I do not attempt to take left turns through that one. I avoid the middle lanes of any multi lane turn.

I'm developing that Atlas in my head, too.
