Don't I know it! I've had a couple of close encounters with copperheads :yikes: and am on the constant lookout when I'm outside OR inside for critters. It's part and parcel for living in the country and I'd have it no other way. I may not like snakes particularly, but they're a vital part of the ecology and I leave them alone unless they try to hurt me or my loved ones.
i have the one we found in the barn locked in a jar of formaldehyde on the bookshelf i planted my face into last week  rottncop said he was grateful i didn't bust THAT jar :lmao: he's so compassionate....
good gawd it was hard to kill that sucker too.....we put it into a thermos of water shut tight, and the bugger found a small airspace and LIVED to tell the tale, so i opened the spout and weighted the thermos down into a trash can filled with water. SUCCESS! i say live and let live as long as the poisonous ones don't live where I step

sorry jazz... my motto is - any good snake is a dead snake. My cats kill the mice and frongs just fine.

I killed three water moccasins over the past two weeks when we had all that rain coming down. I've seen hundreds of the things when they go into these bredding frenzies, but I've never seen one with a head three-fingers wide, not even a two-finger wide one. Maybe a thumb-wide head tops. There are larger ones, but they are found at west, not down here.

I use a .22LR with snake shot shells to dispatch them. They're not much louder than a cap gun, so you don't have to worry about making the neighbors think we're under attack.

I took the lady's account with a grain of salt. It is highly likely that her emotions of the moment blew it into more than it was. One day she will tell her grandkids, "I once got bitten by a snake THIIIIIIIIIS big!" If only she had a video of it...
