Yes, he should go to scrimmage and tell ALL his team mates that he'll be missing scrimmage and the game because he wasn't able to follow thru on his commitment to school and he won't be able to support the team untill he improves his performance there.

I personally agree here 100% Maybe this will be the start where there will be no more bombed tests Sorry if I stepped somewhere I shouldnt have

I agree..and take it a step further..make him sign an agreement that if he doesn't bring up the grade by xxxx, then xxx will happen. No video/computer time..tv...outside play...whatever.

:yeahthat: Schoolwork is more important than extracurricular activities.

Have you considered talking to his coach? I know when my kid was playing, the coaches gave them the do good in school lecture and if they were screwing up in school they would make them miserable at practice. Extra laps, pushups, etc..

Would THIS face lie?
Last week Boy bombs a math test. This week he bombs a spelling test. I have told him over and over football is a game, school is real life.

So I just gave him a good ass chewing and he said "Don't taze me Dad" and he is in his room. Tonight is a scrimmage game and Saturday is a real game.

It depends! Is he really struggling and failing tests or is he blowing off school all together??!! If he is really making an effort but failing I would try to find him help either via the teachers or private tutors. If this is the case I would let him play as sports are a great venue for kids who have difficulty in school to keep their self esteem intact. At least they feel like they are good at something. If he is blowing school off and doesn't care he should be off the team!! Good luck!

Do any children read for pleasure anymore? Is it all TV and video games?

It's a different time. I was a voracious reader because we grew up in the sticks and we didn't have 200 TV channels and video games. A book was an escape from the tedium of farm life.

Boy will read if I make him but that is about it.

So, what did you end up doing?

I made him sit out the first series tonight but then he went in and made 5 tackles, 2 unassisted and stripped the ball from the QB.

He was an animal. I am going to chew his ass before the game Saturday just to motivate him.

Go Boy!! :yay:

With my boys, if they do bad in school, I don't punish them with football, but make them do more with schoolwork, etc. However, in high school it has changed a bit with one. The coach/school itself punishes them.

Sad, isn't it?

I used to read 5 novels a week until I discovered somd.com. and the internet.

My 11 year old doesn't read for pleasure, but he does for knowledge and will tear through a book taking it all in. Then it's all video games. He also gets National Geographic. I used to read that to look at the naked pictures. Maybe he does the same.

The 18 year old still reads for pleasure. I guess she saw me doing it all of the time, or it might be genetic. Who knows.

The sports and school thing is still the issue. What are you going to do, dad?

We had a Dad to Boy lecture. I made him sit out the first part of the scrimmage, helmet off. TV after school is off limits until next week. He has to read 2 books and do 2 book reports instead of 1, this month. He blows another test he will sit out practice.

He is good he just forgot to be afraid of me and let it slide.

I coach baseball and if a parent tells me that little Johnny is not doing well in school I tell Mom and Dad to bring him, along with his school work to practice and I have him sit on the bench and do his school work while everyone else is out on the feild. This works wounders!!!
