Your thoughts on Paul Hill execution?

Abortion doctor's killer welcomes execution

Paul Hill was a Presbyterian minister who fired three rounds at Dr. John Britton, his wife, the doctor's bodyguard, and another escort as the four arrived at their clinic in Pensacola. After firing, Hill ran to an oak tree for cover and looked at his victims. He saw that the doctor was still moving, so he reloaded and fired five more times. (This taken from my memory--I heard an interview with Hill, on the radio on the way to work this morning, in which he recounted in those details the murders.) The doctor and his bodyguard were killed; the doctor's wife & the other escort were injured.

Any thoughts, anyone, about the murders? About Hill's theory of "justifiable homicide"--which is the rationale he uses for killing the two men? About capital punishment?

"I believe that the moment I'm executed, that my soul will be made perfect in holiness, and I will be in the immediate presence of the Lord, and I will be forever with him. So I'm looking forward to that," Hill said Tuesday.
Well good. Let us know how that works out for you, buddy.

Psst...Bertha....you know, if you wanted to stir it up, you could use this guy as an example of Christians everywhere instead of just a nutty. Food for thought..... :really:

Just another cold-blooded nutjob if ya ask me. I'm not a fan of abortion, but I don't understand how this idiot thinks what he did, is right.

--said he has no regrets for his actions...

I believe that the moment I'm executed, that my soul will be made perfect in holiness, and I will be in the immediate presence of the Lord, and I will be forever with him.
There's a bet I wouldn't take.

Even IF killing the doctor could be justified (personally I agree w/ ty's mom, who said "thou shall not kill" didn't apply to him?), How does he justify killing the body guard? And if God wanted him to kill, the first shot would've done it.

Well, of course I could, but it wouldn't be sporting.

BTW I was going to post a poll and I forgot to check the "poll" box. :stupid:

Actually, the correct translation of the Hebrew-Aramaic is not kill but murder. So the commandment is "You shall not murder." That distinction made, Paul Hill is guilty of murder, so he gets society's punishment.

It has been held by the "liberals", "left", "bleeding hearts", or whomever that capital punishment is not a deterrent. Well, he won't do it again. He is deterred. And the violent crime figures show that violent crime has dropped since capital punishment executions have started again, so it must be deterring others as well.

And, capital punishment is not anti-Biblical either.

I take offense at the suggestion that Christians everywhere are represented by Paul Hill.

That's wasn't directed at you, 2A. It was directed at Hessian because he's always finding articles about these bizarre drug-using criminal types and using them as an example of mainstream gays.

Peace, bro.

Not by this one. I just think capital punishment is wrong, and I don't much care what anyone calls me for it.

Not if you're only reading the old testament, and not if you ignore Jesus Christ.

That's how I read it. Of course, YMMV.

Now, see, Vrai, who needs to suggest Hill represents all Christians to stir up a hornets' nest?

Besides, if I did that, I'd be condemning myself, too.

When I read this, my first thought was, I'm certain that a similar thought was shared by nineteen men on four airplanes about two years ago.

Of course. It's religious fanaticism and it makes people into nutballs.
I just think capital punishment is wrong
Why?

I don't agree with it but I do understand the theory that 2 wrongs don't make a right and that's why most people don't believe in capital punishment.

If he were remorseful I think letting him live with the guilt of it would be more of a punishment but since he doesn't think he didn't anything wrong, on with the frying!

With the exception of assisted suicide or "pulling the plug" on the braindead (as discussed in another thread today), I don't think it's right for anyone--judge, jury, murderer, anyone--to say to another human being "your life is thus ended." Whether it's a drunk driver or a mass murderer or Paul Hill: in my opinion it is never okay for a human being to decide when another human being's time is up.
