Zantac

Is this a medication that should take immediate effect, or does it take some time of continual dosing to work (if it's going to...)?

The man on the commercial says it takes effect immediately. My Aunt Dot (who actually uses it before every meal) said it took a couple of days to really start working.

Thanks for the insight, guys. Baby girl has been on it since Monday night, but no signs of the :barf: letting up anytime soon. She's on a very small dosage for now. If it doesn't seem to help I'm not sure if they'll up the dosage or just take her off of the meds.

Poor thing. I know how it feels. I have that acid reflux stuff and it's not fun. I feel for her. I think a friend of mines kid was on that and it worked for him.

I'm suppose to go have that test done so that I can get on that medication, but I'm to scared to.

Sorry to hear that. I hope your little one feels better soon. I assume they've done all the standard tests, checking for obstructions, etc. I'd suggest phenergen but you'd never see her awake - that stuff knocks you out. I have a friend whose child was a Rolaids baby for 3 years. She finally grew out of it.

Yeah, the test is kinda wierd at first, but its worth it in the long run.. I fought it for a long time, then got tired of feeling like poop.. Litterly!
Trust me you will feel so much better when its all said and done.

I know that's what everyone says. I'm just a big baby when it comes to doctors and needles. :baby: I should just go and do it. I know it will make me feel better. Sometimes I have to take Zantac twice a day. That's just not right. :tantrum

Dayum, I use to do that with Zantac, Tagament. All that crap. I take one Prevacid a day. I swear by it.
NOW! If I drink to much, (which is "never") during the week
I have to take two.

But wait, there's more...
JJ -- have you asked the pediatrician if a change in diet would help? I remember DQ getting pizzy and uncomfortable when she nursed b/c I had eaten something with onion in it. If you nurse, or have the baby on a type of formula that isn't agreeable with her system, maybe a change would offer some relief and less problems with acid reflux ... just a thought. :ohwell:

They did the barium swallow at Calvert Hospital and determined that she doesn't have reflux. I find that hard to believe, though...she can really shoot it across a room...and does at least 2x/hour!

Have they said anything about her formula or anything like that? That's crazy that she doesn't have reflux. Poor baby. I so know what she is going through.

They've recommended several formula swaps. Let's see...she was on regular milk-based formula, then a different regular milk-based formula, than a lacto-free formula, than Nutramagin ($$$$$), then soy formula, then a different type of soy formula, and now the 1st soy formula we started. :lmao: I decided I might as well be cost effective since nothing seems to help or hinder. :lmao:

Odd. Normally one of the first signs is that projectile deal. And the frequency...so it's not only just after she eats...and you've tried all of the "stinky" formulas (that Nutramiagen - man, I wanted to hurl when I smelled it). Very odd. I'll do a little research with other moms that experienced this and see what their diagnosis were.

 Jesus. Then that just doesn't make since. I bet you she must have reflux. What else would be the cause?! I just don't understand that!

At the risk of alarming you:

My girlfriend's baby used to projectile vomit after EVERY meal. I mean, a LOT of it. Doctors kept saying, "Babies spit up - she's fine" but my girlfriend knew something was wrong. So she took the baby to a pediatric gastro specialist who diagnosed the baby with Pyloric Stenosis, gave her a simple surgery and she was good as new.

Maybe something to ask you pediatrician?

When Ty was on that it was just for the heartburn the reflux was treated with another med that was really effective in stopping the :barf:, reglan or something like that which is now illegal to be sold in the US. I'd make sure that the med is supposed to stop the :barf: and not just control the aftermath before you quit giving it to her. Dr. Mohan is with the gastro dept at children's and comes to the bean building once a month (or at least she did 5 years ago), you have to make your inital appt. in dc but then follow-ups can be done down here, she was great with Ty.
