Skip the doc tests. Just go to the store and pick up Prilosec. It works much better. I use to take Prevacid and Prilosec works better. Once a day and all is well. I can now sometimes go three or four days without any since I have been taking it so long.

It doesn't cost a lot compared to even co-pays. Just go to Wal-Mart and all better. Prilosec was prescription only till about 4 months ago.

My girlfriend's baby used to projectile vomit after EVERY meal. I mean, a LOT of it. Doctors kept saying, "Babies spit up - she's fine" but my girlfriend knew something was wrong. So she took the baby to a pediatric gastro specialist who diagnosed the baby with Pyloric Stenosis, gave her a simple surgery and she was good as new.

Maybe something to ask you pediatrician?

This has to do with a valve in the stomach, doesn't it? My Mom mentioned this to me the other day, too. They'd already done the barium swallow where they looked at both valves on the stomach and said that all was well...but like I said, I find it hard to believe that she doesn't have reflux with as much as she hurls. She has her 4 month check up in just a couple of weeks, and I'll probably ask for a referral then.

Most babies outgrow reflux on their own between 6 months and 1 year, hopefully what ever is wrong will correct itself soon

Hi I'm new. I understand what your going through. My son had the same problem. He was on Zantac and another medicine. Everytime I made him a bottle I had to put 1 tsp. of rice cereal for every once. It makes the formula thick so they can keep it down. The medicine did work after awhile. Good Luck!

I had the same problem with my son. He was on Soy with he was first born. He ended up being allergic to that. So he was put on Nutramagin which then caused constipation real bad. His milk was switched to goats milk and I had to add folic acid to it. I decided one day to try Lacto's Free and that did the trick with his bowel. The goats milk smelled really bad and was nasty.

He to had the projectile vomiting and was diagnosed with reflux but it was very mild. He did not have to be put on the medicine. His doctor told us that we would have to feed him a 1/2 oz. at a time because he was a gassy baby. When we burped him we had to hold him in front of us with one hand below his stomach (NO pressure was to be on his stomach at all) and the other cupping his chin to hold his head up. His back had to be at a 45* angle with his face looking forward. There was no patting his back for a burp because holding him like that the burp would come out on it own. Didn't take long either.

Maybe you are feeding her to many oz. at one time and that is what is doing it. Try burping her more often at each bottle feeding and try holding her the way that I just described. She may have to much gas on her stomach that she is not getting out.

Kimmy2 this is the best advice!! It sounds like JJ has had the correct tests done, and nothing anatomical is going on...so burping between ounces, feeding in a more upright position, and sitting baby UP after each meal for about 30 minutes is probably the best course. Babies also don't always cry because they're hungry, so no need to up the formula, at the slightest whim, but they DO NEED to suck, so a pacifier is often what is needed rather than MORE formula in response to cries if it's sooner than 3-4 hours from last meal. Even breast fed babies who are getting good milk supply shouldn't need to nurse more than every 3 hours once the supply is coming in good from mom (after about the first month) <yakkity-yak>

Oh and also those ugly playtex nursers seem to be the best for not allowing too much air into the bottle too, the ones with the bags, and the square brown nipples. You can squeeze all the air out of the bottle, and the baby has to work a little harder to get the milk out, thus satisfying the need for sucking too. The suck need is nature's way of making baby eat, and it doesn't go away until they are about 6-7 months old, when they can begin to grab bites of food and shove it in themselves.

I have GERD and I take prevacid once a day. I had to have an upper GI done and they said I had a lazy valve. My mom started getting freaked out because I would feel bad then throw up and an hour later be fine.

My oldest son was diagnosed with Pyloric Stenosis, and went to Childrens hosp for surgery and got a second opinion before surgery and found out it wasn't that. Glad someone did a second look, but my son did do the projectile vomit, but got better after awhile. Good luck.

How about the Dr. Brown bottles? Are they for colic or to minimize air?

We keep her back elevated for 30 minutes after each feeding. She gets burped after every 2 ounces and we try to wait a few minutes before giving her bottle back. However, most times she is hungry and howls and screams for it so it's really not feasible to wait long inbetween. She never really has gas.

Tried them. They were a bit PIA and didn't make a bit of difference in the barfing. Went back to regular bottles. We've also tried Avent and Dr. Browns.

They are pretty sure she doesn't have this or reflux, but we go to Children's on the 15th for further testing.

Have you tried giving her rice cereal or baby food? She may be able to keep it down better since it's more solid. Tyler had to be started on babyfood at 2 months old to help with his reflux so I know she's old enough for it, but of course I would check with you doctor first.

She started spoonfed rice cereal this week. She gets it before her evening bottle & bath.

Does she keep it down better:confused:

And have you tried mixing it with her bottles of milk? I'm not talking about just a little cereal added to the milk, Tyler's had to be think, I think we did one tablespoon per ounce maybe it was 2 or 3 per ounce. We had to cut larger holes in the largest holed nipples we found it was thick, but it stayed down.

We did try it in each bottle, but maybe we didn't try adding as much cereal as we should have?
