I don't think you could count the Alabama election as an indicator of anything. The only reason Moore lost is from the "November surprise". Its an aberration more than the normal.As you all are probably very aware, tonight and the VA elections are just an appetizer. This country is moving left leaning and more progressive.

As for "purple" Virginia, its been leaning more "blue" in recent years, so I don't think it is an indication of the country moving left. If you think Virginia electing a Democratic governor is an indication of the country moving to the left, then I would suggest Maryland electing a Republican governor is an indication of the country moving to the right. Of course that's also not a true indication.
If you want an indication of the country leaning one way or the other, you need to look at the state level governments (governor and legislatures) where Republicans hold 32 governorships and 26 of those, they hold both houses in their respective legislatures. When those numbers start moving towards the Democrats, then you could make the statement that the country is moving towards the left.
