Some country show was on the other night. Normally wouldn't have watched it, but LeeAnn Rimes did a tribute to Patsy with a medley of her songs. I had forgotten how good LeeAnn is, she did the songs justice. Beautifully performed.

I love this rendition by LeeAnn:

A much unheralded Rose Maddox with Buck Owens "Back Street Affair."

Strung Out
Greatest Country song of ALL time;

It's got the simple drum shuffle, the twang guits, steel guitar, a pianah, good, solid vocals and the best story of all time, ever. It pulls at your heart, brings you to tears and lifts you up like a soaring eagle. It's VERY American and the story just touches you, deep, especially guys.

Is it country? I don't know. What is country? Some stuff, you can listen to and say "that's country." Other stuff...well, not so easy to deliniate. Good stuff nonetheless.

"Games People Play," by Joe South, 1968

Same song by the Pleasure Barons out of San Diego, featuring Mojo Nixon, Dave Alvin, and the late Country Dick Montana.

Ken Curtis aka Festus from "Gunsmoke" fame singing "Tumbling Tumbleweeds."

"Don't Fence Me In" with Curtis and Freddy Quinn (whoever he was).

Merle Haggard does Marty Robbins - with Marty Robbins and Ralph Emory...kind of uncanny, actually.
