TV SERVICE

Which do you prefer Diretv or Verizon do not like all the other stuff out there
We can't get Verizon where we live so we've had DirecTV for years. Tech support is quick and efficient. Price tends to go up a little too often but we rarely lose service even during storms.

They must have sold me the "Acme" dish.
We had issues with the old dish but once we upgraded to the newer box and they added another dish, it's been fine. They couldn't take the old dish off our roof because it would damage it. It's on the back side of my husband's "monster" garage so nobody even sees it unless you look out my bedroom window.

Forget them both. Get YouTube TV if you have broadband internet. We've been MUCH happier than when we had DirecTV, which used to be great but then AT&T screwed it all up.

If you search the forums, there are several threads about TV in the last couple years, with a lot of good advice.

I like DirecTV until it rains. Also, they keep raising my bill for no good reason and I have to keep calling to get it my bill corrected every few months.

We have had directtv for damn near 20 years. Everytime we get wind and rain, satellite goes out. The bill is constantly increasing. We are paying $170.00 p/month, no premium movie channels, just the hi-def standard package. We are seriously thinking about going back to antennae for local channels and streaming movies and shows.

Same reason I gave up on Dish Network, increasing bills, no improvement in tech. I got a good signal, tho, only went out in a really bad t-storm coming from the west. Went to an antenna 20 years ago. There are times, like now in the heat wave, when the signals drift in and out due to changing atmosphere and I really think again about sat tv, but in the fall/winter/spring I get 50 channels. My DSL is way too slow for any streaming services.

However, I am considering getting a new WiFi hot spot and getting rid of the DSL. That would save money and increase my bandwidth to speeds acceptable for streaming.

Hmmm...our DSL isnt that fast either, but, not as fast as I would like. No nothing about hotspots, may have to look into that.

A mobile hotspot is a device that uses cellular service just like your phone, but is just for the data, and provides a WiFi connection for your laptop, tv, etc....
I have my phone with StraightTalk, and if I upgrade to a $55/mo plan, I can also use a mobile hotspot up to 10Gb/mo with that same plan. Both phone and hotspot for $55. Not sure the 10 Gb hotspot data is enough for my streaming needs, so still looking for unlimited options.

I think @itsbob uses one where they live because of the limited options. It's also portable, so you can take it with you when you travel, camp, etc...

Another option I'm looking at is ViaSat, satellite internet. You'll get many negative comments about sat service, but if you're not a gamer, and don't video chat often, it's fine for email, streaming, etc. Yes, it can be subject to outages when the weather turns bad, but if the tech does his job right, aims the disk right, doesn't have cables and connectors with high dB losses, you'll minimize the outages. Truly, how many times do you lose a sat signal anyway?

Atlantic Broadband is my only choice, but 99% of the time it works perfectly. I pay $60/month for YouTube TV and it has everything I care to watch except the History Channel (I miss Forged in Fire and a couple other shows but I can do without them). Waaaaaaay less than we used to pay DirecTV, and 95% of the content. (We didn't subscribe to a lot of premiums.) We can watch on our laptop or desktop or iPhones or iPads no matter where in the world we happen to be, as long as we have internet service available. I think they offer a free trial - why not test it?
