So because Paris, TX has a racial problem, that means ALL OF AMERICA has one? Since when does one tiny burg represent a whole country?

Certainly the girl's lawyer appealed this sentence. I'd be interested in the outcome of that.
:yeahthat:
so...what color was the hall monitor?

You can't ask that! It's all about the poor little black girl who was treated so unfairly. Is anyone getting really tired of this kind or BS the media is portraying about the poor abused black people or is it just me? When will society say, SHUT UP and GET A LIFE!

If that's what happened, the hall monitor should've been fired.

I could see the girl getting suspended from school, but come on, its not like she pushed her down a flight of stairs. What's the problem with some of you people? A KID that pushed someone, anyone shouldn't be locked up. That crap shouldn't even be in court. A couple days detention and a good smack from her parents is all she deserves.

If she pushed someone down a flight of stairs or off a table or out of a window, then I could see a bit of juvy.
I agree with this thread the most, with the exception of I believe the child should be expelled rather than suspended. If we don't have harsh punishments for children dis-respecting adults than eventually we will have chaos. When I say harsh though....7 years? That's beyond harsh, that's excessive! I locked up a guy for molesting a juvenile and he only got five! My only other comment is it's possible there may be mandatory minimums for certain crimes and if that's the case, the prosecutor should have worked a lesser plea! Then again, perhaps she refused a lesser plea like the lady who through the ice in Va. She was offered a minor charge and choose to go to trial!

This isn't even getting media attention....i heard about it through an email...haven't even heard it on the news. And im sure if i did it sure wouldn't be on the FOX network.

THERE IS A RACIAL DIVIDE IN AMERICA...the media only brings to light what is kept in the dark. Your naive to think that the media just makes stuff up to show racial prejudice. The NYC Nightclub shooting was PREJUDICE....i dont care if it was black cops lighting that innocent mans ass on fire....they deserved what they got too!!!

I can't stand when people try to justify rulings like this even when it comes down to the children.....it has ALOT to do with race. This girl HAD NO RECORD. I can't imagine if it was a white child or a relative of one of you that just got this sentence, i'm sure there would've been outrage then.
Well you lost me with the NYC Shooting if your reffering to the groom who was shot. The guy was trying to crash into police officers. Why was it not prejudice when the police officer shot the guy at the Ihop in Alexandria who was trying to run into him? Where were you then? Ohh wait..that guy was white, so that had to be something else! Please! I agree the Texas situation appears to have some racial overtones, but the New York shooting was done by members of both races!

THE OUTRAGE!!!!!!!!

In Texas, a white teenager burns down her family's home and receives probation. A black one shoves a hall monitor and gets 7 years in prison. The state NAACP calls it `a signal to black folks.'

Damn Straight! Good Judgement!

Better to nip it in the bud right here and now, before they start trying to sit at the front of the bus, frequent restaurants and drink out of our water fountains!

I think them shooting that groom was more than justified. They were trying to run over him - I'd fire at your ass to if you were trying to run me over and I had a shotgun. I'd hold the trigger with an auto until I know for sure there's no way you've made it out.

But, because the groom was black, the cop can't defend himself. :smack:

I'm beyond tired of it - but, because I am, I'm racist. Why? Because some moron said so. :dork:

The first person top cry racism is the most racist themselves...

I suppose it depends a lot on where you are.

In these stories a gang of blacks beat hell out of 3 white girls on Halloween night causing permanent injuries to them.

The black girls doing the beating got probation and community service. Even though they were charged with a hate crime.

Maybe in Texas they take asssaults a little more seriously than California

I would agree that, with the story as written, the punishment is a bit harsh. My question though, she has been in jail for 10 months now, and it is just now making it into the media? I would surmise there is more to this story then is currently written.

The article is not written as a news piece. It is a "the South is more racist than every" article. Of course it is going to dig up anything that proves that point.

"The 14-year-old was sentenced by County Judge Chuck Superville to an indeterminate sentence of up to seven years in a Texas Youth Commission facility, a sentence Creola Cotton and fellow civil rights activist Brenda Cherry say they feel is unfair."

It appears the sentence is being overstated in the press, but who's keeping count?

LamarCountyAttorney said:
"During the punishment phase of the trial, prosecutors argued against probation, saying that the girl’s mother is perhaps her biggest problem and that the girl has no hope of getting better as long as she’s in the same home as her mother."

As has been observed before, there is much more to this story than is printed in a Chicago newspaper article inspired by an NAACP attack months after the event.

We have now devoted six pages of postes ignited by a selectively quoted, inflammatory Chicago newspaper article with the flames being fanned by a professional We-are-your-victims advocate.

The NAACP thinks everyone is out to get black people.

It seems this incident is EVERYBODY ELSE's fault but the girl. I'm betting this girl's had a history of bullying and fighting in school.
